Green and lean

Not long ago Presbyterian congregations that promoted conserving resources were considered progressive. Now, in a time of soaring energy costs and a declining economy, such actions might be seen more as conservationist — as in conserving the environment and sometimes even protecting church budgets.

From small congregations (of which there are many) to big-steeple churches, Presbyterians are becoming more interested in “going green.” It’s a term that some critics say is over-used, but whatever the motivation, more churches are doing it.

“Presbyterians are getting involved, asking questions, asking for resources at a much higher rate,” says Rebecca Barnes-Davies, former coordinator of Presbyterians for Restoring Creation. “We’ve seen a pretty drastic increase in the number of people who are worried, particularly about climate change.”

They are embracing the call to be responsible stewards of God’s creation, motivated by such passages as Isaiah 45:18: “For the Lord is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos” (New Living Translation).

You just knew that Christ came to save the planet - forget that stuff about men's souls.

The apostate church continues to worship the creation instead of the Creator.

He said be stewards of the planet, not worshipers of it. Being conservationists is one thing, but most these places have bought into the lie that man is the cause of global warming.

It makes you wonder if these idiots would have joined with the environmentalists who certainly would have protested the use of the ancient cedars of Lebanon to build Solomon's Temple.

Of course we should be good stewards of what we’ve been given, but I couldn’t get past the name of the internal organization “Presbyterians for Restoring Creation.” How arrogant. Apparently these people don’t understand that there is only One Who will restore His own creation. Of course, He’ll do that only after He destroys this one and creates a new heaven and a new earth.

What does this Bible passage have to do with “green”? I am not a Bible scholar, but I am pretty sure the “chaos” is in reference to the relationship between sin and humans. “Chaos” is not referring to the internal combustion engine and cow flatulence.

Remember, the only Christian churches that will be propped up and celebrated by the world will be the ones who bow down and call Caesar Lord.

Jesus told His followers in His Sermon on the Mount;

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'(Matthew 7:19-22)

Many of the leaders of these churches who have their congregations worshiping the creation will be sadly surprised on Judgment day.

You got that right. And after seeing the hyphenated-name (Rebecca Barnes-Davies) I smell a liberal in an apostate church.
