WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A public furor over big bonuses paid by firms bailed out with U.S. taxpayer money is fueling resistance to President Barack Obama's ambitious plans to extend government intervention in the U.S. private sector.
Republican opponents say his commitment of huge sums to try to revive the ailing economy is driven by a philosophical belief in greater government intrusion in many areas, from healthcare to education, dubbing it socialism.
Obama is pursuing these policies just 13 years after President Bill Clinton, a fellow Democrat, disarmed Republican opponents by declaring: "The era of big government is over."
As the enormous cost of the Obama's effort to stimulate the economy grows, many are weighing just how far government should be extending its powers.

omg!
But who will stop him? We don’t have republicans with enough cahones out there to make the argument day in and day out and we are outnumbered in both congressional majorities - who will stand for Americans except for Radio Talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh?
“The Obama”. Man this is getting out of hand.
We have to have a 2012 candidate who vows to reverse it, and 2010 congressional candidates that vow to restore free markets.
Susan Collins and Olympia Snow will stop him!
Just joking!
And today there was the announcement of another trillion dollars to buy bad debt with funny money and another agency to oversee it.
[From Reuters? Holy smokes ]
Think what they will be saying 100 days in, especially after the stock market dead cat bounce is done AND Geitner still has no solution AND the Iranians are still laughing at Obama AND . . ..
And why didn’t they do it with the Bush/Paulson/Pelosi/McCain bailout? It was supposed to by the toxic assets. 2 trillion spent, and they are still talking about it?
Get ready for double if not triple digit inflation.
I think he will basically stop himself...if you count the stumbles over the past ten days...this is about as many as you’d see with GW over a three-month period....and just over ten days. Between the financial issues, the teleprompters and these appearances on TV...he is royally screwing up. If I were the WH control staff...I’d make him stay in the house for about two weeks and just stay out of sight. If he continues this stumble game...more of the media will be forced into discussing the matter. Even CNN can’t continue to avoid all of these stumbles.
If Obammie the Commie asks for a 1000% increase in spending and Democrats “resist” and demand only a 750% increase, what they are doing is making it look like they are looking out for us, “the taxpayer” (as Schmuckie Schumer used us to further his attack on Capitalists and the free market). The Republicans think they are standing on their principles when the demand only a 500% increase, and we are left with the "who else is there to vote for? No one," resolution.
But what they are really doing is making us think we got away with something with only a 750% or 500% increase.
The reality is that they are all fleecing us.
The NYT has done it too today. Don't fall for this. These asswipes have NO credibility and deserve nothing more than blatant failure at every turn!
What going to happen next? Is the Olympic Brazillian Bikini Wax team going to be delivering Girl Scout cookies at my front door. I'll keep you posted...
They would need 10 years of truth telling and even handedness to get me to trust them.
Moss is a Harvard professor. "Given the extent of the crisis" confiscating everything you own would probably not strike him as a "radical move."
This is from the Trotsky side of the revolution. Let’s see what Barack O’ Lenin says in return. It’s interesting to see some of the pigs squirming. I would go read DU but I just ate.
They used the money to pay off the chicoms and other foreigners. So we are getting stuck paying to keep bankrupt, poorly managed companies afloat, and paying off their foreign buddies who conspired with their risky investment schemes.
We will.
