I have a replacement knee, implanted 5 years ago. I am singled out for full screening every time I board a plane. Does anyone know of a certification that can be obtained through a law enforcement agency (State Police, FBI, whatever...) that tells the TSA that I am not a threat with a titanium joint? I fly a couple times a month and am tired of the 15 minute inch by inch examination. I am on a first name basis with a few of the screening personnel at specific airports, but they still have me assume the position for special clearance.

I have heard that you can get a statement from your physician that you have a metallic implant to present to TSA. I don’t know how if it really helps.

Many people have letters from their knee doctors. I don’t know why security accepts letters since they could be from anyone or anywhere.
