I’m not any more fond of the Obamas than you are, but I don’t get the problem with this remark. Seems to me she was trying to say that people gave her a hard time, but that didn’t stop her from being a good student and succeeding in life, even if that meant being accused of “acting white.” Seems like a good example for kids who might be in danger of succumbing to ghetto culture.

I can’t decide which is worse... talking like a white lady or using proper english? Is she using her blackness to try to relate to the young black children? Or is she using the “white girl analogy” as a reason to not encourage proper english... or to tell them it’s okay to use proper english. I think it’s the latter....but I wonder if the kids understood?
