Almost 40 years after he was convicted of butchering six people, a new photograph of mass murderer Charles Manson has been released.
The 74-year-old was pictured yesterday by corrections officials at a high security prison in California.
It was taken as part of a routine update of files on inmates at Corcoran State Prison.
Manson founded an infamous hippy commune in California in the late 1960s that became known as the 'Manson Family'.
When the so-called Family began to form, Manson was an unemployed ex-convict, who had spent half his life in correctional institutions for a variety of offences.
Manson and other members of his group were convicted of killing actress Sharon Tate and six other people during a bloody rampage in the Los Angeles area during two August nights in 1969.

I thought he was convicted of culpability of the murders he instucted his followers to carry out, but I've never heard him called a serial killer before.

I’m not responsible for the Daily Mail’s headlines my friend and the rules of this site prevent me from editing the headlines, if you don’t like the headline write a stiff letter to the Daily Mail’s subeditor, I thought people here might be interested in the substantive part of the story, ie the new photos.
