North Carolina Tea Party Help (vanity)

The April 15th tax revolt is on! My local tea party is set and I would like some help with topics. Asheville, NC is the Liberal capital of the South, so I need some ideas. I would like to collect some things the liberals hate about the bailout and stimulus and use it during our tea party. Honestly, the disgust with this crosses party lines. Also, the Tea Party I am participating in, is part of a Libertarian- sorta annual revolt. I, of course, will not violate my strong conservative beliefs and am not "reaching across the aisle" in compromise. I am looking at porkulus, bailouts, Fannie & Freddie. Thanks everyone.

Remember this fact above all:
If you want coverage on the News you have to have something interesting for the cameramen to film.
Signs, people in Costumes, and if you can have some form of protest that has movement not just a static speech.
A really good way to get some coverage is reenact the actual Tea Party (I suggest instead of dressing as Indians to just have the re-enactors dress in period costume.
Mock up a ship (If you have a stage just decorate it up with cardboard to represent a ship.) and make up some crates of tea and have the re-enactors make a speech as they toss the crates over the side! Get them to mention names like President Obama and Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Dodd.
Make sure the tea crates have nice large text on the side with slogans like "NO MORE BAILOUTS!" or "CONGRESS SHOULD RETURN THEIR PAYCHECKS!"
The crowd will love it!

They would love that. This is my first protest and I understand we are limited to the sidewalk, which must be kept open for other protestors. A costume would be great tho!!

"They would love that. This is my first protest and I understand we are limited to the sidewalk, which must be kept open for other protestors. A costume would be great tho!!" OK just scale it down. Get some cardboard boxes and decorate them with Slogans and clearly marked as TEA. (Got to keep the visual) and since you are going in a Nonpartisan approach make sure both Republicans AND Democrats are called out as you toss they crates. Get a Megaphone and have someone narrorate as the re-enactors toss the tea!
The Boxes don't have to be big but the Slogans need to be as big as possible. (You should be able to read them clearly from a distance of 10 yards.)

I found these a while back...

Tea stained Betsy Ross flags. They’re even made in the USA out of American cotton. I just thought they were cool and have been trying to think of a way to insert them into conversation, so, here you go. I don’t know if they would help get camera time but they certainly look nice, and make a statement. I imagine they’ve become more popular as of late.

I saw today where Microsoft is getting a good chunk of the Obama stimulus package.

Signs, people in Costumes
I've been doing a lot of thinking about these tea parties and while I think something like that might help you get onto TV, I have to wonder what the average generally-apolitical person would think of it when they do see it on their screen. I suspect they'd think you're unserious, and you'd discredit your own message.
And as far as signs go, I think slogans, especially ones that are in-jokes or are heavy in political-speak, are unproductive because they won't produce converts. Instead, make a nice big sign that lays out the raw dollar amount for all of the spending, and beneath the number: "This is what your grandchildren will have to pay" or something like that.
Although, I've never been to a protest before, so maybe I'm missing something. But it sure seems like sobering facts make a bigger impact on the average person than something general.

Although, I've never been to a protest before, so maybe I'm missing something. I had a blast at our Tea Party in Lafayette, LA two weeks ago. Make time to go to one in your area.

There are two announced for here in Charlotte that I'm aware of, and numerous others throughout the Carolinas. I will try to make at least one of them and possibly get pictures.
I really hope that people are thinking about how to take these things to the next level in ways that will draw negative attention to the individuals responsible. The point should not be to preach to the choir, but to place genuine pressure on the politicians.

People actually have time to do silly, pointless c-rap like this? I know they get zotted really quickly, but what they really need is to GET A CLUE and the GET A LIFE.

Are YOU talking to ME????? The purpose of this forum is not to provide a life or anything else. It is to bring people together for discussion and ACTIVISM. Not just to sit on the sidelines and armchair QB. So maybe YOU need to get out and do something with some life in it. We have some brilliant folks out there with some great ideas to stop this crazy train. If you find something clueless and pointless about activism.. YOU ARE ON THE WRONG FORUM!

Mom, I absolutely, completely, 100% apologize. I have no idea why my reply went to this thread. I had two threads open. The other was about Ron Paul spam in my Freep Mail and my reply was intended for
that thread.
Mod, please remove my comment... was not intended for this thread. I must be tired... never done that before.
Sorry,

Thanks for posting that. I was simply trying to get some help with my part in this tea party. I posted my vanity in chat, but thought maybe someone was still upset about the vanity.

We’re having a get FReeper together on April 18. It may be a picnic or lunch at Perkins in Kingsport depending on how many RSVP. It is just a short hop over the mountain from Asheville.
You’re invited!!

I work on Saturdays, but I will pass this on to my DH. Thanks for the invite. So tempting to hang out my “gone fishing” sign, but I am not the boss.

Actually, I have Vista on a number of computers and have never had a minute’s problem. As long as you have a couple Gigs of RAM and a decent processor it seems to work fine. I even run it on a couple of miniature tablets and am pleased with it.
