In his latest effort to combat global warming, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to enlist the state's troubled youth.
The governor today announced the new California Green Corps., a statewide effort to train at-risk young adults between 16 and 24 years old for jobs in the state's fledgling green tech industry.
"It's the kind of program that President Obama envisioned when he put together the economic stimulus package. It's all about jobs, jobs, jobs," Schwarzenegger said after touring a solar installation certificate program at American River College, a community college in Sacramento.
The program will be administered by Schwarzenegger's volunteerism czar Karen Baker and will receive about $20 million in initial funding. Half of that will come from the U.S. Department of Labor as part of the federal stimulus package ...

State To Utilize Federal Economic Stimulus Funds & Public-Private Partnerships For Green Jobs Training
VIDEO (Barf Alert)
Immediately after meeting with President Obamas Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis in Sacramento to discuss federal economic stimulus funding and job creation, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today launched the California Green Corps. Building up communities and the states green workforce, the California Green Corps will place at-risk young adults aged 16-24 into jobs in Californias emerging green economy.
President Obama and I share similar priorities right now when it comes to helping the economy rebound and creating a greener California and America, said Governor Schwarzenegger. In California we will utilize federal economic stimulus funds and public-private partnerships to help stimulate our economy while initiating actions to improve our environment. Green jobs are exactly what our economy and environment need right now - and the California Green Corps targets that need while helping at-risk young adults realize a brighter future.
Investing at least $10 million in federal economic stimulus funding from the U.S. Department of Labor and an additional $10 million from public-private partnerships, the initial phase of the California Green Corps will consist of a 20-month pilot program reaching at least 1,000 of Californias at-risk young adults. The program will consist of a minimum of 10 regional Green Corps throughout the state - with at least one regional Green Corps located in each of Californias nine economic regions. All programs will be public-private partnerships that include green job training, a stipend, an educational requirement and community service.
To help ensure the success of the Green Corps, it will be housed under CaliforniaVolunteers - an agency in a unique position to leverage federal economic stimulus funding and to work with public-private partnerships and across state agencies.
This program furthers the goals of Californias Green Collar Jobs Council which was created when the Governor signed Assembly Bill 3018 in September 2008. The Council is charged with developing a comprehensive approach to address the workforce needs associated with Californias emerging green economy.

This is getting sickening — now Ahnold is lining up behind the rest of the radical socialists setting up his “youth corps” -— between the radical rats in Congress and these fools, it is starting to sound like 1935 all over again.
Gee, an Austrian starting a youth corps. The SchwarzenBamaJugend
Jobs Jobs Jobs!!!
Ahhh , to be young again..
Whatever happened to just having them stamp license plates or picking up highway litter... Oh, highway litter, there’s a ‘green’ job!
Can't ya tell we have a "fiscal crisis" here in California?
Thanks for the federal funds everybody. Rest assured, Arnie will throw it down a rat-hole for collection by his financial backers as he has with every other cockamamie project.
I guess those midnight basketball programs weren't enough to keep our "troubled youths" out of trouble. Now they will send them to school to learn to be "green."
“Job” programs for youth are a waste, you’d think that people would know that already.
Many years ago, back in the 70s as an inner city youth, I was involved for a couple of months in such a program.
I took it as I wanted the money and was only 15.
The managers of the program had little for us to do, and nothing that actually needed done.
But the boss was still peevish when I quit to take an actual productive parttime job at a greasy spoon- wondering why I quit such an “opportunity”.
There’s a pun buried in their.
Hitler’s german youth camps.
