AN MP is ‘outraged’ that an asylum seeker who left a young girl dying under the wheels of his car has still not been deported.
Last October the Lancashire Telegraph revealed that Aso Mohammed Ibrahim had been taken into the custody of the UK Border Agency.
Speaking at the time, Government officials pledged Ibrahim, who was thought to have used up all his means of appeal, would be deported ‘at the earliest opportunity’.
But it has emerged that Ibrahim remains in this country after making another legal bid.
In November 2003 Amy Houston, 12, died after being strucky by Ibrahim’s car.
The disqualified driver ran off, leaving her dying under the wheels.
Amy’s dad Paul Houston, of Argyle Street, Darwen, said it the latest news was a ‘bitter pill to swallow’.
He had shed tears of relief in October when Ibrahim appeared set to be deported.
Mr Houston said: “It seems to me this guy has already used up all of his options and is still here.
“For five years I have continually had to justify my position.
"I have had to fight every square inch to get him to a deportation centre, and I’m not going away.
“If he gets to put his case forward at an appeal hearing, will I?
“We live in a democracy. So can I challenge any decision allowing him to stay?
"Nobody seems to know the answers to this question.
“The armed forces are coming home from Iraq after being there to make it safer.
"If it's still too unsafe for Ibrahim to return, then have the soldiers been wasting their time?”
Darwen and Rossendale MP Janet Anderson and Hyndburn MP Greg Pope are to raise the matter with Government ministers.
Mr Pope said: “I am outraged that the man is still in the country when he has no right to be.
“It is causing an enormous amount of stress to the Houston family.
“How many appeals does this man get?”
During the past three years, Ibrahim has got married to a Lancashire woman and has two children.
He applied for citizenship but was turned down.
Since he has launched several appeals asking to stay in the country, claiming it is unsafe for him to return to Iraq.

November 2003???? Was taken in by the UK border patrol (whatever that is) in October and still not deported. Sounds like the US. No, he’d have been given citizenship here.
Unsafe for him to return to Iraq? It should be unsafe for him to remain in the UK if I were the parent of that poor child
Everyone’s getting worked up over a girl. If she’d been at home where she belonged, this wouldn’t have happened.
