Clearing Out The Clutter
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? —1 Corinthians 6:19

My garage serves as “storage” for things that don’t have a place in our home, and, frankly, there are times when I am ashamed to open the door. I don’t want anyone to see the clutter. So, periodically, I set aside a workday to clean it up.

Our hearts and minds are a lot like that—they accumulate lots of clutter. As we rub shoulders with the world, inevitably, perhaps unknowingly, we pick up ungodly thoughts and attitudes. Thinking that life is all about “me.” Demanding our rights. Reacting bitterly toward those who have hurt us. Before long, our hearts and minds are no longer clean and orderly. And while we think we can hide the mess, eventually it will show.

Paul pointedly asked, “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?” (1 Cor. 6:19)—which makes me wonder if God often feels like He is living in our messy garage.

Perhaps it’s time to set aside a spiritual workday and, with His help, get to work clearing out the clutter. Discard those thoughts of bitterness. Bag up and throw out the old patterns of sensual thoughts. Organize your attitudes. Fill your heart with the beauty of God’s Word. Make it clean to the core, and then leave the door open for all to see!

More like the Master I would ever be,
More of His meekness, more humility;
More zeal to labor, more courage to be true,
More consecration for work He bids me do. —Gabriel

Don’t let the Spirit reside in a cluttered heart. Take some time to clean it up today!

Greetings to everybody out there in Freeperland, it's time for the Friday Flyby. Tonight a quick look at the Sopwith Camel of WW-I and Snoopy fame. A detailed history of the Camnel is here (CAMEL)

The Camel was a development of the Sopwith Pup. While the Pup and Camel shared a very similar appearance that is where the similarities ended. The Pup was easy handling almost docile while the Camel was more than a handfull. The Camel was powered by a 9 cylinder rotary engine of about 150hp depending on which engine was used. A rotary engine had the unique feature of the engine crankcase and cylinders rotating around the crankshaft. The spinning mass of the engine would act as a gyroscope of sorts and this effect would impact the handling characteristics of the aircraft. As might be expected in the hands of a novice this could have deadly consequences and many student pilots were killed trying to learn to fly the Camel.

However in the hands of a skilled pilot who knew how to take advantage of these unique characteristics the Camel became a deadly dog-fighter. The only plane that could come close to marching the manueverabilty of the Sopwith Camel was the Fokker DR-1 Triplane.

From July 1917, when it reached the Front, until the Armistice, the Camel accounted for no less than 1,294 victories—more than any other aircraft in World War I.19 The Camel was used in the Battle of Ypres in July 1917 and participated on offensive patrols and ground strafing. The Camel also served as a light bomber and in one operation the No. 28 and 70 squadrons bombed the Rumbeke Aerodrome with twenty-two 25 lb bombs.

The Sopwith Camel topped out at about 120mph at 10,000 feet and could climb to 10,000feet in about 10 minutes. The camel did not last in RAF service much past the end of WW-I but the Belgians, Greek, Polish, Canadians and the US Navy did use the Sopwith Camel Post WW-I. So on with the pics...

First up a head on picture of the Camel. Credit for the pics go to (Warbirds over NewZealand)

Several nice inflight pictures of the Camel.

The pilots scarf shows up well in this picture.

Up and away in this picture.

Well all things most come to an end and so it is with tonights Flyby as the Camel returns to earth.

Hope everybody has a great weekend, y'all stay safe out there and we will be back tomorrow night if the crick don't rise:-)

Regards
