In 1935, hundreds of them died in the great Labor Day Hurricane.

I've seen this incident portrayed on one of the cable channels (History Channel, probably).

That they were Bonus Army participants was not mentioned.

There’s a great book about it titled “Storm of the Century” (not to be confused with the movie, which is based on book with a different title). It just so happened that I read it right before Katrina. The author goes into great detail describing the bungling by Washington beaurocrats that delayed warnings and ultimately delayed the rescue train. Ernest Hemmingway, who was no fan of FDR and his New Deal, wrote extensively about the aftermath as well. Congress even held hearings.

You are right, in very few places will you find it mentioned that those people were Bonus Marchers sent to the Keys by FDR.
