Ken Starr returns as champion of the right

Kenneth Starr, the independent counsel whose investigation of the Monica Lewinsky scandal led to President Clinton's impeachment, is carrying the mantle of the right again, defending California's gay marriage ban.

The former solicitor general under President George H.W. Bush has been dean of Pepperdine University's law school since 2004. In December, Proposition 8 supporters announced that Starr would be lead counsel in fighting the legal challenges brought by gay-rights groups.

"The addition of Dean Starr to this legal conversation will provide useful guidance for the Court in resolving these important issues," Andrew Pugno, general counsel for ProtectMarriage.com and the Proposition 8 Legal Defense Fund, said at the time.

"They went to a well-known, very conservative attorney who's clearly someone who's seen his part of politics of the past, when we were a country that focused on dividing people," Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, told The Hill. "We've moved to a very different era."

Ken Starr was never any champion of right, or the right. He was called upon to investigate crimes committed by The Great Stainmaker, and wound up writing a report on Monica Lewinsky. His office also issued a report, a cover-up really, about the death of Vince Foster on which he failed to put his name. His office was forced by a court to attach an appendix to the Foster report which basically said the main report was a crock.

I’m sure he will do an equally thorough job of this as he did before.

He is a joke. How can anyone take this guy seriously.
