Japan Warns It Will Intercept N.Korean Projectile
The Japanese government could deploy two arsenal ships equipped with the latest Aegis radar system and interceptor Standard Missile in the East Sea if North Korea continues to prepare for a missile test, the Kyodo news agency reported Tuesday citing a senior official at the Japanese Ministry of Defense. But Kyodo added if a North Korean missile targets the United States, it will be difficult for Japan's SM-3 to intercept it.
Tokyo warned North Korea it would intercept not only missiles but also a satellite launched by the communist country. The Sankei Shimbun quoted Japanese Minister of Defense Yasukazu Hamada as saying, "It is natural to react to even a satellite if it can cause serious damage when it falls down to Japan."
Based on the progress of North Korea's preparations, Japan's Defense Ministry predicts the missile test will happen in mid-March, the Sankei said.
A long pipe which appears to be used to supply fuel was detected near a base in North Hamgyong province by a spy satellite, and it is highly likely that North Korea will start putting fuel into the launch rocket between Thursday and Saturday. Once the fuel is in, the launch must happen before the fuel begins to decay, probably no later than mid-March.

ping. things heating up. look for late March maybe early April for the fireworks
How does one vote "Present" in Japanese?
Its cheaper to send a check to chiapet successor it’s not lime it’s real money
YES!!
>>> could deploy two arsenal ships
Someone actually built an Arsenal Ship ? The concept has been batted around for years but I didn’t think it had ever gone beyond the concept stage.
Loose translation maybe ?
“Goooooo go, they say he’s got to go, go-go Godzilla!”
If Japan can deploy it’s arsenal ship, you know we have one or two that are going to back them up...
From my experience on the operational side of the Navy, I get just plain giddy knowing we have developed a very reliable ABM system that works from a seaborn platform...
It’s mobile, very reliable, and its not limited to some big infrastructure of radar, data-links, separate facilities for the missile, and other support systems...
Plus the whole thing can protect itself fairly well without a lot of menusha from other agencies...
Park one or two off of Alaska, Seattle, San Fran (ok, maybe not San Fran) L.A. and you have pretty much covered the US from those positions...And we still have a bunch of ships ready to cover the retaliatory package we send over to take care of the instigator...
Just gives me a warm and fuzzy just thinking about it...
nondeska!
“hari-kiri”
hehehe
Have you been in Japan recently?
If so is there much talk about the inpending N.Korean launch among the people?
Seems I remember a few years ago N. Korea launched a rocket that flew over Japan on its way to a Pacific splashdown. It caused quite a stir at the time.
What’s your take on what is causing Japan’s fairly sudden intensity in boldly protecting herself — is it largely because of her economic pains or because she feels an increased militaristic threat (and feels increasing isolated and surrounded in that area)?
Spring exercise schedule in Korea. When they launch missiles, it is usually at the beginning of a large US/ROK exercise and this will coincide with the beginning of the next large scale ex.
On another note, good thing Hillary went to Asia to outline policy and get everyone on board the “great space coaster” or whatever we are calling the administration. Reinforces the fact that she was only over there prostrating for China to buy more of our debt in my opinion.
If the Japanese Navy can do this, it makes you wonder what the US Navy is capable of...
Sounds like a good plan.
Too bad Obama would likely order them to all stand down. To promote a non-intimidation stance. For the sake of all humanity, and all that touchy-feeley crap.
Japan knows the they cannot count on the USA.
This is a good thing. Each country taking responsibility for it’s own security.
Too bad America is paying no attention to it’s own security thanks to the One.
Yep, you don’t mess with the Japanese. Although we cowed them with the atomic bombs at the end of World War II and during the occupation, the Code of Bushido remains latent within their culture and society.
This is a bold move by Japan not only to state the capability but the actual intent to do so.
No one apparently feels safe as an ally with Zero behind them. The message is clear around the globe after he just sold out the Czech Republic and Poland who had spent years negotiating missile defense with the hostile Russian Bear lying nearby.
He just flat out sold them out and Russia took the Zero letter and promptly urinated on it before making it public.
That’s about as bad as you can get coming out of the gate.
Bad tidings lie ahead. Russia, Iran, Syria, North Korea are playing chess. Zero’s playing a friendly game of checkers. Wondering why his ideological pals aren’t playing nice.
Even Hugo Chavez has whipped it out to take loose a few streams.
Zero doesn’t get it (yet). He thinks the US can retreat from the world stage, show weakness and he can focus on spending at home which is all he cares about.
The world doesn’t work that way.
Thank God. If we had to depend on the community organizer to do something intelligent, we'd all be toast. Thank goodness there are people somewhere else covering our backs. Whew!
Excellent point(s) you make there...
