President-elect Barack Obama intends to nominate his technology adviser, Julius Genachowski, to head the Federal Communications Commission, a Democratic source close to the Obama transition team said.

Genachowski grew up in Great Neck, New York, received his B.A. in history, magna cum laude, from Columbia College, Columbia University in 1985. He received his J.D. in 1991 from Harvard Law School, where he was a notes editor at the Harvard Law Review[2] when it was headed by Barack Obama, who graduated in the same year. After graduating from Harvard, also magna cum laude, Genachowski clerked for the Honorable Abner J. Mikva on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and then at the U.S. Supreme Court for two years, for Justices William J. Brennan and David Souter.

I found the statement about his time as a clerk at the Supreme Court under Brennan & David Souter, interesting.
Here we have a techie with that kind of legal background, who clerked for David Souter. And now he is going to work for BHO.
Does he owe enough back taxes to qualify as a member of Obama’s band of Merry Pranksters?
I havent made my mind up about this guy.
Oh who Am I kidding? here comes monitoring of communication
He worked on the select committee investigating the Iran-Contra Affair and for U.S. Congressman (now Senator) Chuck Schumer.
He was General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission under Chairman Reed Hundt, a position he left in 1996 to go into business.
For the Obama 2008 Presidential Campaign, Genachowski was Chairman of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications policy working group that created the Obama Technology and Innovation Plan.
He also advised and guided the Obama campaigns innovative use of technology and the Internet for grassroots engagement and participation.

He sounds like BHO’s equivalent of Albert Speer. Technically brilliant facilitator of an evil man.
This is the guy who will be charged with administratively effecting the Fairness Doctrine by another name.
I predict he has TAX problems....
May be so. I have no doubt that BHO MUST have a way to silence his past.
Julius Genachowski appear to be an enigma.
“His parents are Eastern European Jews who survived the Holocaust.”
Does this compute??
Not sure about that. He is however a Greenie.
Interesting. Rahm Emmanuel and now this guy.
Mossad has lots of opportunities for ears in the White House.
It’s taking less time now for you to stop kidding yourself!
He supports “diversification” of radio.
I don’t know why it wouldn’t compute .... if Genachowski graduated from Harvard Law with BHO and they were the same age, born 1961 they’d both be 47-48 now.
Tho the quote doesn’t say his parents were in concentration camps, let’s make that assumption. The prison camps in Eastern Europe were liberated in ‘45.
There’s no info on his parents’ ages as purported prisoners. They could have been children or just had him late in life.
There’s a pretty wide range of ages for people whose ‘parents are Eastern European Jews who survived the Holocaust.”
So he would be the one responsible for the turning off all of the verification of credit card donations to the Øbama The Magnificent campaign. They collected what, about $200,000.000.00 in illegal offshore campaign contributions from foreigners located all over the globe.
But hey, at least none of them were Muslim terrorist orgs or communists anti-Americans that gave all that money to His High Holiness, right?
uhh
right?
Thanks for the insightful observations about his background.
Yes, I knew that the camps were liberated then. My father was in Munich about 3 weeks after Dachau was liberated, and spent part of that winter there.
And as you said Eastern Europe is a large area. It is possible that the parents were not in a camp.
Do not assume that all Harvard graduates are liberal. My son-in-law is a Harvard Law grad and is a stanch Republican, but not as rock ribbed as my daughter. His father’s family is Jewish and his mother’s family is Hispanic.
He has interesting outside BIO at:

“With that, our change-we-need man went off to claim his share of the dot bomb, sitting on the boards of JackBe.Com, Expedia Inc, Hotels.com, the Motley Fool, and Ticketmaster. Plus, he served as general counsel to General Atlantic, USA Networks, Interactive Corp., USA Networks, and USA Broadcasting.”

Vivendi Universal Entertainment
“Perhaps to show that he was a share-the-wealth kind of guy, Diller transferred some of his gains to three top Interactive staff. Julius received a piece of the action worth $2.5 million.”
—
So VUE Chairman Diller gave Julius 2.5 mil
According to:
“Mr. Genachowsk, attended yeshiva through high school and studied in yeshiva in Israel before going to Columbia and then Harvard”
—
I have no idea what that indicates about his thought processes. He was however educated in Israel.
An early supporter of the president-elect, Mr. Genachowski also served as a bundler for the campaign, raising more than $500,000 in donations.
------------
If only there was a Repb with the gonads to ask about those bundled funds.
innovation plan that expressed support for open Internet or "net neutrality" protections; media-ownership rules that encourage more diversity;
Code for control of net content and the back door to the 'Fairness Doctrine'.
You are probably right. "Diversity" means anything but a white male caucasian.
oh, I wouldn’t assume he was liberal just because he graduated from Harvard .. but look at his resume. Clerking for Abner Mikva, and Justices Brennan/Souter; working for Diller in private enterprise, then working at the FCC as a political appointee under Clinton... I think I see a pattern here ;)
He is reportedly the boy wonder who put together the tech programs for the Obama campaign, most likely including its ability accept without checking those questionable small contributions that amounted to multi-millions.
Sure looks like a committed lefty to me.
