This morning in my inbox, I received a form-letter style email from Randy Bumps, Political Director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, asking me if I might donate some of my hard-earned cash to the NRSC to help support Republican candidates in 2010. Since Specter is up for re-election, I responded with him in mind. Here is the text of my response. I might suggest sending them something similar if you get one of these letters.

Dear Mr. Bumps,
I am very active, both officially and "unofficially" in GOP politics, but I have to tell you, until the NRSC stops supporting RINOs and starts supporting solidly conservative candidates, even in primary challenges, I cannot and will not give a single red cent to the NRSC. I prefer to give directly to the conservative candidates that *I* choose to support, and I know many, many other people who feel the same way.
The other day, on Mike Gallagher's radio show, Chairman Steele made the comment that the "Republican Party is the conservative party in America." This is partly true, and is not as true as it used to be back during the Reagan years. In 2004, then-President George W. Bush and the NRSC both supported the notorious RINO Arlen Specter against the primary challenge made by Rep. Pat Toomey - a solid and experienced conservative. Why? That was unconscionable.
You sounded the alarm that the GOP only holds 41 seats in the Senate. I submit to you that straying from our conservative roots - including the example set by Senators like Arlen Specter, Susan Collins, and Olympia Snowe - is a lot of the reason why we have lost so many seats. The people know when a candidate and a Party aren't serious about first principles - and they won't vote for half-Democrats when they can just as easily vote for the real deal.
Respectfully,
XXXXXXXX
I gave a response too! Not nearly as good as that, but essentially the same message: NO $$$ until GOP starts showing some intestinal fortitude and stop kowtowing to the Democrats in order to look reasonable.
I got a call from the Minnesota Republican Senate Committee. I asked the caller to name one conservative that ran in the last election. He could not. (Although we did run Michelle Bachman and John Kline) I told them my checkbook was closed until they did run conservatives.
And the RNC with RINO Steele isn’t any better.
The house version of that group called my conservative congressman a lost cause, stripped him of money, and left him to lose by a whopping 2%.
My shiny new democrat congressman has already set a record for paying the highest penalty ever in the state of Michigan for campaign finance violations.

Good comments TQC. That Romney won almost completely exhausts me. Have we learned nothing? The FAILED games are still being played? Maybe Bob Dole is up for running again too, huh?
I jsut gave to SarahPAC and will continue to do so. At this point I am not convinced that Steele is the answer either. Ask yourself this question. Why is Emmanuel and all the Democrats focused on Limbaugh? Here’s a hint: His message has the most potential to defeat the Democrats, that’s why their going hard after Limbaugh and not Steele or some other.
It’s the Reagan/Limbaugh way or NOTHING, and in my mind Palin is in that mold.
LOL OPPS! I got that email this morning, but since the subject line was “help!” I assumed it was some Princess in Nigeria asking me to help her move $547 million bucks (left by her late father) away from some oppressive government so that she could open an orphanage and afford emergency surgery for her son. So, I marked it as spam.
When I saw this thread, I wondered where my email begging for cash was...sure enough...it was the “Help!” email. Wonder if this means that I won’t get anymore emails from them? Maybe they should think up better subject lines...
I agree... Palin is the real deal!

When Specter, Collins, and Snow lose their committee positions and when Steele stops criticizing Rush...I’ll start giving money to the GOP again.
I think you have the best answer to the problem. Rather than hearing promises that are never kept - removing Specter, Collins & Snow from their committee positions will show us that the Republican party indeed works for us. This time around, they are going to have to EARN our vote.
We are serious & they had better understand that & get with the program. They have the choice of being a viable party again or losing power for years to come.
No longer are they going to scare us with the 'RATS are going to win - so we need money to beat them' song & dance. The way they are acting is literally throwing our money down the RAT hole!!
I always tell the RNC fundraisers, whether Senate or Congress committees, that I will not donate to their 'general' fund because I know not who they will give the money.
I have told them repeatedly (by phone) that I already donate to ... and will be glad to continue to donate to ... those specific congresscritters who are upholding our Republican principals, etc.
Unless the RNC guarantees me in writing that they will not give one bloody penny to Arlen Spector, Olympia Snow, or the other duffus who betrayed the GOP ... I will never again donate to national Republican anything!!
With Steele and others now dismissing Limbaugh's CPAC speech, screw 'em!
Its great for me to know that I am not in a boat alone.
My sentiments have been aptly expressed in this post.
No more money from me until they prove they mean business.
Pillory them all on the National Mall!
