I understand intercepting a TU-95 is hazardous to your hearing. The props on those things make a hell of a racket — one of the noisiest aircraft ever made.

I’ve heard that too, the prop design is unique, two counter-rotating blades (kids, don’t try dusting them while they’re operating ;) although our own B-36 Peacemaker was notorious for being loud as all living Hell as it passed overhead. It’s my understanding that the Soviet subs of the Cold War were so noisy that our ASW guys used to joke about putting cotton in their ears before putting on their headphones so they wouldn’t hurt their ear drums, and would still hear the Soviets as they came within range, lol
