“Cop Killer” bullets is a media-created hysterical term to describe the now-illegal, and already banned, armor-piercing hand gun ammo, which is nevertheless EXACTLY the type which SHOULD be available to a militia!

>Cop killer bullets? Is he talking about hollowpoints?<
teflon.
But it won’t matter, most cops who die of firearms are shot with their own. Cops don’t carry teflon. This ban would just make it harder for officers to get the ammunition to take out a bad guy who has a vest.

>I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller,”<

Is that Heller or HITLER???

When I turned on the TV just before dinner last night, I happened to catch part of a network (NBC, I think) news story about a “drug war” in Mexico. The story was chock full of videos showing large caches of “assault weapons,” all of which were said to have come pouring over the border from the U.S.

I turned to my family and wondered aloud when is our next local gun show because, the airing of a story such as this could only mean The One is ready to take his first of many steps to dismantle the Second Amendment.

Some FReepers live to disparage the NRA but, they hit the nail on the head when they sounded the warning last summer that, if elected, The One would likely name Eric Holder as his AG and Holder is a sworn enemy of the right to bear arms.

Some “cop-killer bullet” basics.

1. “Armor” has many meanings. Military vehicles have plating that is called “armor.”

2. Cops wear fabric vests that is known colloquially as “body armor,” which is usually effective on some or all standard pistol rounds, but ineffective on most or all rifle rounds, regardless of bullet design, material, or coating.

2. “Armor piercing” or “AP” bullets have hard metal (steel, tungsten, etc.) cores to penetrate military armor plate. These are legal to possess, but illegal to make, and illegal for firearms dealers to sell. They have no special effectiveness on cop vests.

3. AP bullets do not penetrate cop vests any more effectively than ordinary hunting bullets, which is to say that they both penetrate vests quite reliably.

4. Entirely unrelated to any of this, police have an occasional need to shoot into a vehicle, and the glancing angles at which the bullets strike glass or sheet metal cause them to deflect and be ineffective. To address this, a bullet was designed to have a sharp front rim formed of hard metal (like steel, not copper or lead), which bites into the surface instead of glancing off. While these were effective, the hard jacket material caused excessive wear on the barrels of the cop’s guns. So the bullets were coated with plastic (teflon.) These might aptly be called “cop-gun-protective bullets” or “deflection-resistant bullets.” Instead, these have been dubbed by the ignorant and hostile as “cop-killer bullets.”

5. These so-called “cop-killer bullets” have no advantage in penetrating police vests. Nor have they ever killed a cop. Nor are they legal to manufacture or possess (to my recollection - they certainly are unavailable on the market, including gun-show sellers of controversial ammunition).

6. The plastic coating on these or any bullets has no effect on target penetration or lethality. Teflon coating is very common on ordinary hunting and target rifle bullets because it reduces the amount of copper that accumulates in the gun barrel, reducing cleaning chores.

He’s talking about whatever he decides are “Cop-killer bullets”. That’s how the government works with firearms.

Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades

WTF does this have to do with any of the weapons they plan to ban?

Democrats rely on the ignorance of the people to not know the difference between a fully automatic assault rifle (a real term) and an assault weapon (a made-up term meaning "the gun looks mean").

Damn! Slap a new stock on a Ruger Mini-14 and it becomes an "assault weapon." Does it make it any more dangerous? Of course not. But the sheeple don't know that.

What about 16 round 9mm handguns? Are they “assault weapons” due to the quantity of bullets?

We are getting our change alright. Less freedom, less security, more government oppression and the list goes on and on.

Here’s a factoid for all the gun control liberal loons: Contrary to what they may think, the US is NOT the nation with the highest ratio of weapons per household. The two countries at the top of this category are Afghanistan and Yemen. For every Afghan born, there is an average of 1.5 weapons for him. One of my professors is from Afghanistan; he had 8 members in his family and 11 guns, including 3 Kalashnikovs.

Buy your guns now before 0 and Co. ban them....
