Once again, our wealth is not because of Jesus or conservative principles, but because of our knowledge of science and skills in technology and engineering.

The Soviet Union had knowledge and skills in science and engineering, but no Jesus. Nazi Germany had knowledge and skills in science and engineering, but no Jesus, despite what the revisionists want to claim. Our own modern science and engineering benefitted mightily from scientists and engineers from the former Nazi Germany.

We had Jesus. I hope we still do, as a nation.

You're out of your mind.

One of the problems I have with Jindal is he tends to be one of those “nice guys” that likes to take the high road. That’s why he lost the first election to Kathleen Blanco. He was leading in polls most of the campaign, and then she started to run negative in the last two weeks, and he totally unresponded, and she squeaked out a victory. He did better in his second campaign, so hopefully he’s learned his lesson.

Americans appear to prefer Obozo’s style of speaking. It’s like a more refined Rev. Wright. Weez all black now....

Possible, though Occam’s Razor suggests the reason is the teleprompter. Several times last night he stopped and stuttered (looking like a robot that was shorting out), undoubtedly because he’d lost his place in the teleprompter.

“Show me anytime Fred was on fire in this century?”

You missed the convention speech, I take it.

FWIW, Luntz’s focus group thought Jindal did well.

He also has a funny way of pronouncing words that end in the letter Y. Philosopheh or enmiteh or economeh. I believe he thinks it sounds cool.

Jindal needs to get a speaking coach and work on a deep voice.

Jindal needs to hit Gold’ gym and do Olympic lifts. Eat.

Lose the striped tie.

Get a Marine hair cut.

Stupid things, but about 90% of TV is appearance.

Amen!!!

“Jidal is an intellectual stud”

He’s a wonk and when nervous, as he was, runs home to momma.

“Once again, our wealth is not because of Jesus or conservative principles, but because of our knowledge of science and skills in technology and engineering.”

Try reading some history instead of just reading DU.

The key things that make a nation wealthy are:
1) rule of law
2) strong private property rights
3) no generalized corruption (i.e., people are generally honest)

There are secondary characteristics like a productive populace and willingness to innovate, but those won’t cause prosperity without the above 3 items.

All of these are good, solid, conservative (even religious) principles. Technology has been built on this foundation and enriched many. But the reason that nations like Mexico can’t get themselves out of 3rd-world status even though they have tremendous potential is because of these basic principles.

This has been true all the way back to the Roman empire. I know that you probably think history only dates back as far as your lifetime but that’s incorrect. We can learn alot from those who have gone before us.

Watching it now. Jeez, can he turn away from the mike when he’s grunting and groaning. It’s painful to listen to. Also funny is when he says “listening to the other party, you’d think we were in the middle of a great depression.” I guess maybe Larry Kudlow wrote his speech. I have to shut it off. Too painful to listen and watch.

I seem to recall from speech and theater classes that in any stress-timed language (like English) inflection carries implied meaning. A rising inflection is generally approved for things like interrogatories, or in cases where you want to leave the impression that the thought you expressed was incomplete, that there was more to follow, either supplied by you in subsequent remarks, or to be “filled in” by the audience. In other than those cases, a rising inflection implies that the speaker has not mastered the thought, and I am inclined to believe that this is the case with Oboma. It can also be used in blustering, hectoring kinds of oratory, and on second thought maybe this was more Obombah’s style.

A rising inflection conveys uncertainty in a sense. It’s almost like turning the statement into a request for agreement. It is perceived as a sign of weakness. It’s also, don’t stone me ladies, more common to women than men. This is an issue that telemarketing coaches work on with new employees.

Obambi and I are the same age, but the trend toward “up-speak” started afterwards. It’s amazing talking to under 30s today because they end declaratory sentences on the up, making them sound like questions.

I blame it on an education system which tells them constantly that there is no right or wrong, just someone’s opinion, turning even their own memories about something that happened into an opinion that they are inviting someone else to share.

Sad.

I can’t listen to him either. He’s revolting to look at, listen too, and his fanboys in the media are disgusting too.
