Mitt Romney backs GOP Stimulus Detractors with PAC Money
LA Times ^ | February 24, 2009 | Staff

Today, as ABC's perceptive Rick Klein notes, Romney's PAC -- Free and Strong America -- donated $1,000 each to 11 Republican congressmen targeted in a retaliatory ad campaign by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for voting against President Obama's economic stimulus bill. Romney praised the Republicans as "standing up for fiscal responsibility and saying no to spending abuse."

Nice symbolism.... but why is it that when Democrat donors do similar, it’s always $10 million to each campaign.... Romney loses $11,000 when drops his wallet....

Who were the 11 Republicans? (Just curious)

Hope Free & Strong helps Sen. Bunning in KY out. Sen. Bunning was a strong opponent to ALL the stimulus packages, and is now being sandbagged by the Republican leadership for his opposition.

Right.... $1,000 doesn’t cover the expenses of a single trip to a prepaid campaign event....

Good for him. He’ll deserve unqualified praise after ha apologizes for supporting the billionaire bailout in October.

Romney would be the POTUS if not for the religious racists in the R party.

I’m not sure Romney’s ready.

He’s sort of damaged goods.

Probably he should stay out of the limelight, and let the GOP find someone who can win.

:)

Yeah, this totally makes up for advocating for abortion and leaving the flaming tire of Romneycare around the neck of the people of MA, forever perverting conservatism in the minds of many.

He also sent out a note in his PAC email encouraging the members to support them as well. I opened my wallet, you should do the same.

Romney is such a transparent attention whore. He’s willing to do anything that keeps him semi-relevant.

Yeah, dammit, if it wasn’t for all those pesky anti-Mormon bigots, your favorite MA liberal Grecian formula addict would have been the nominee. Nobody opposed him because he was a phony charlatan with a record of advancing liberalism at a greater rate than a Democrat. /s

I just don’t understand the dislike for Romney by the likes of so many on here. Guy does something nice and he still gets kicked in the mid-section.

“I just don’t understand the dislike for Romney by the likes of so many on here. Guy does something nice and he still gets kicked in the mid-section.”

Because he’s kicked conservatism in the mid-section too many times for us to believe anything he does is genuine and with good intention.

He’s an opportunistic Republican, not a conservative. He grovels back to the base after they figure him out, trying to save some face.

They don’t like him because he can speak without having to pepper his speech with colloquialisms like “you betcha” and “hey joe, what do you know” to make his points. Honestly, I think some of the Freepers on here need to get over it. The guy is an economic power house who would protect abortion, what do they have to cry about?

Co-mingling of paltry interest from PAC money for Romney through Lexington? How special is that?

"Mitt Romney’s PAC money supports his own staff"
Monday, December 8, 2008 - BOSTON — Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is spending most of the money
raised by his political action committee on hiring consultants and staff members,
possibly paving the way for another run at the presidency.
The Boston Globe reports Monday that of the $2.1 million raised by Romney’s Free and Strong America
political action committee, only 12 percent been spent supporting other Republicans.

"Mitt Romney aides start agency"
Thomas Grillo - Saturday, December 13, 2008
Three of former Gov. Mitt Romney’s staff have started a political consulting agency that will launch next year.
Eric Fehrnstrom, Peter Flaherty and Beth Myers have filed with the Secretary of State William Galvin’s office to form the Shawmut Group.
The Lexington-based firm will provide political consulting, issues management and strategic communications advice.
Since April, the trio has been working for Free and Strong America PAC, Romney’s political action committee."

Sorry, newbie. Romney is an exposed media whore, and GOP-backstabber.

Seamus might add 'dog abuser'.

The bailout support bothers me more than what he did in liberal MA. He looks too GWB/McCain Washington establishment/Wall Street type for me. But he is loyal and will not buck the party, will not join McCain on cutting deals with democrats. He will articulate a great fight against democrats, which we have few that can do.

I only ask that if you hate Romney, to be fair, you hate Bush/mcCain worse because it was their bailout. Heck, and Bush bailed out GM too.
