U.S. Reps. Charlie Dent (R) and Leonard Lance (R) continue to be the targets of a national Democratic organization because of their votes against the $787 billion economic stimulus package.
This week, it's Dent in the spotlight. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will make automated calls to Lehigh Valley residents, criticizing the congressman for his vote on the recovery bill.
"Did you know Congressman Charlie Dent voted against President Obama's economic recovery plan, endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce?" a transcript of the call says.
"Dent's empty rhetoric can't hide that he voted to raise the AMT tax on 22 million middle-class Americans and against the largest tax cut in history."
Dent has been critical of the recovery package, saying it will increase the national debt significantly without doing enough to stimulate the economy.
"The congressman heard from his constituents as he considered this vote; the communications to our office were five to one against this legislation," Dent's spokesman, Gregg Bortz, said.
"During that time, there were radio advertisements that were taken out by a national labor group, urging people to call Congressman Dent. Of people who told us they heard the radio ad, the numbers were 100 to one telling Congressmen Dent to vote no."
The automated calls will start tomorrow and run for one week. A spokesman for the Democratic organization would not disclose how many calls will be made or how much is being spent on the campaign.
In previous stimulus-related campaigns, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has targeted Lance, R-Hunterdon.
Congressman Charles Dent (R) is my congressman in Eastern PA.
He was among the few Republican members of Congress to attend Obama's Super Bowl party, and before that he was invited to visit the White House to meet with Rahm Emanuel, Obama's chief of staff.
Now the Democrats are going to make him pay for voting against the stimulus.
Well, this would be a good time for Rep. Dent to (re)learn the principle that the peoples’ representatives ought to actually interact with the people. One or two good town hall type meetings at strategic points in his district would mean the DCCC just wasted a few thousand dollars.
It’s not just the Democrats. The RNC has been running TV ads accusing Democrat Tom Perriello of Virginia of lying. Perriello narrowly beat out incumbent Virgil Goode and he is probably one of the most vulnerable House Democrats, but man I’d like a break from political ads.
Turn them off.
Bump.
How are they going to make him pay? By using the money in Porkulus to fund candidates against him? Oh, wait, they were going to do that anyway.

You fellows just hang in there. The dems just want to destroy your patriotism. And Thanks for using some common sense in your voting.
