Yes and no. A recent German study found that most people who fight Darwin's theory of evolution aren't that religious, but rather show an agressive naivety and a general aversion to scientific thinking / an esoteric hatred towards the scientific method. In that regard, he in fact doesn't understand the issue itself and with his dishonest argumentative style only defends his right to his own scientific naivety.

One example: evolutionary pseudo-science of eugenics

Darwin's "survival of the fittest" has nothing to do with eugenics. The statement itself is actually a tautology, meaning: Existing species were successful because they were successful (i.e. only by surviving the specific adaptation to its surroundings proved to be the best-fitting, an observation that can only be made afterwards, but not turned into a program / ideology).

However - you mentioned Goodwin's law - there's another observation that states that if you repeat something often and agressively enough, other will just cave and accept it as a truth. In that regard, he's an expert.
