Obama promises bipartisan action on deficits (Larry Summers Falls Asleep at Summit)
Financial Times ^ | February 24, 2009 | Edward Luce

Barack Obama on Monday launched what he promised would be an enduring bipartisan process to bring down the fiscal deficits that have started to explode under his watch.

Mr Obama, who called 130 lawmakers and members of think-tanks to the White House for what he described as a “fiscal sustainability summit”, added that by the end of his first term, he would halve the budget deficit he inherited from George W. Bush.

He also promised to deliver a more transparent budget that would factor in the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, natural disasters and the likelihood that Mr Bush’s tax cuts would expire in 2010. Mr Obama’s headline budget is due to be announced on Thursday.

--snip--

Although Lawrence Summers, head of the National Economic Council, fell asleep on the podium, most attendees, including Republicans, appear to have appreciated the exercise. There was even some light-heartedness.

As every employee knows, the more meetings called, the less work that gets done, the less successful the business is and the more likely it will fail.
As a community organizer, BO probably called lots of meetings. The old neighborhood he “worked” in is still a slum.

This “governing by committee” thing that Obummer has going, does not give me any confidence in this administration. He gets scarier by the day.

The guy just says stuff.

He’s now trying to insert concrete words in place of “hope” and “change”...but he really doesn’t have a hint of a clue.

It was obvious that we were facing dire times. Putting a neophyte with Marxist desires in the White House was the height of folly. The magnitude of the resulting disaster is all that remains to be determined.

he would halve the budget deficit he inherited from George W. Bush

He's going to do away with half of what President Bush left (military spending, tax cuts, etc) so he can increase his own spending. Dems really have a way with words everyone should pay close attention when their mouths move.

This is Obama/Ayers code for giving them an excuse to weaken our Military and national defense, and IMPORTANTLY to have GOP participation on it.

If it was ANY different, the military would have been IN the "stimulus" plan.

Always remember.

The keystone of the Obama/Ayers Doctrine is to weaken and demoralize our precious military.

That should put the deficit down to around $225,000,000,000 or about 1/8th of what he is running this year.

The schedule that Obama insists his minions follow is as insane as his ideas. I know that people in the White House have long been expected to keep ridiculous hours for many administrations, but there is not a single ounce of common sense in the current regime. Larry Summers is not twenty or thirty years old. I can speak from experience that as we age, we need more sleep to be productive. I would like to think that the some of the people making decisions aren't constantly sleep deprived. ( I thought that sleep deprivation was a form of torture....and we know that the Obots are against that. )
I thought the exercise of having everyone go into groups and make a decision sounded like the instructions a grade school teacher might give to her students. It was ,at best, a seminar exercise to get to know people.

Yep. The media is perpetuating a lie that The One inherited a $1.2T deficit. It was $450B until The One passed his “stimulus” plan. We need to make sure people understand that.

1.2T includes TARP. Add the "Stimulus" and its closer to 2 trillion.
