Reid: We Did Not Rubber-Stamp the Stimulus

Reid: We Did Not Rubber-Stamp the Stimulus @ 2:24 pm by Michael O'Brien

The stimulus package passed by Congress last week was not a "rubber-stamp" for the Obama administration and contained significant ideas from both parties, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) argued in a speech before the Nevada state legislature.

"Despite our affection for President Obama, and the strong Democratic majorities in Congress, we did not simply rubber-stamp the president's plan," Reid said in his address before a joint session of state lawmakers.

"Democrats and Republicans engaged in a serious and vigorous debate, and ideas from both parties were adopted to improve this historic legislation," the Senate Democratic leader added.

Reid's rhetoric differs significantly from those of Senate Republicans, who have loudly argued in recent weeks that the plan was anything but, especially considering the party-line votes on many amendments offered to the stimulus.

Reid's counterpart, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the proposal a partisan plan, though it did manage to pick off three Republican lawmakers in the Senate.

"A partisan bill that spends a trillion dollars, including interest, of the taxpayer’s money is going to make Americans wonder if it’s worth the risk," McConnell said in a statement following the vote.

Reid's speech sought to make the case to Nevadans that the stimulus would benefit the state's economy, which has been hit hard by the housing bubble's collapse.

Reid, who faces reelection in 2010, is expected to be targeted by Senate Republicans.

BUNK!

That’s why no Reps in the House voted for it and only 3 dimwit RINOs in the Senate. If it was so crammed with free market ideas from Reps more would have signed on.

Of course not. Obama's signature was the rubber stamp for Reid/Pelosi.

‘Despite our affection for President Obama, and the strong Democratic majorities in Congress, we did not simply rubber-stamp the president’s plan,” Reid said in his address before a joint session of state lawmakers. ‘

Folks, its been a decade or more since Harry Reid actually told the truth at a press conference.

He is 100% truthful here.

The Congress did NOT ‘rubber stamp’ President Obama’s stimulus plan.

They rubber stamped Nancy Pelosi’s stimulus plan.

Think about it.

I think there should be a 100 question test about what was in the bill distributed to all who voted on the legislation.

Those who score 75% and above get to keep their seat. Anyone failing the test must resign, regardless of party affiliation.

No American President ever wrote a budget .. only COngress can or does write a federal budget and passes the budget.. The American President(Executive Branch) can ONLY spend what Congress gives him to spend..

Harry Reid is not as stupid as he looks.. He knows that..
He lied by saying that, to our face..

What was that story about how thousands of pages of legal mumble jumble was sorted out in a few days?

The Congress did NOT ‘rubber stamp’ President Obama’s stimulus plan.

They rubber stamped Nancy Pelosi’s stimulus plan.

All 3 are very happy about the Swindle-Us. It's possible that Obama finds some of the partisan stuff a little embarrassing, but even if he won't admit it, it's still what he wanted. Reid got the e-verify part removed, which I think pleases both Pelosi and Obama.
