Sunday morning after church, Alan Leatherby thinks about ice cream.
He looks around the Arden Way restaurant as employees gear up for another day at Leatherby's Family Creamery, a Sacramento institution known for its half-gallon banana splits. Leatherby hopes it is a good day.
It has been three months since the November election and Leatherby family members still are dealing with the aftermath...p> They've been picketed, employees wearing company sweat shirts have been harassed, angry callers have phoned their creamery at all hours of the day. Hundreds of angry e-mails have come in. Bloggers have targeted their business.
Last week, Alan Leatherby received obscene Valentine's Day cards in the mail...."Business is actually down and that worries me," he said. "Can a business sustain that kind of negativity in the long-term? God only knows."
Opponents say they were offended by the size of the family's contribution....people take massive contributions like that very personally," said Fred Karger of Californians Against Hate, which organizes boycotts of business that supported Yes on 8.
Karger said he does not condone harassing business owners or their employees.
"I deplore activity like that; we should take our arguments to their pocketbooks," said Karger. "Some people on both sides of the issue have gone too far."Leatherby worries about the family business. But he does not regret his donation to support the measure.
"I really don't," said Leatherby. "I'm excited to stand up for the institution of marriage and for my faith."

If we can get an email addy or snail mail address, I’d be more than happy to send a big thank you. Plus, Leatherby’s is very yummy ice cream!
I hate how the homo mafia have been using gestapo- and Islamist tactics against good, decent people.
And, they claim that we, regular folks, engage in “hatred” against them.
Compare these hateful actions with this:
Opponents say they were offended by the size of the family's contribution...." said Fred Karger of Californians Against Hate, which organizes boycotts of business that supported Yes on 8.
They say they are against hate but then commit hateful acts. What hypocritical maroons!
Videotape and post on youtube the HATERS picketing, and demand A Federal Investigation into this obvious HATE CRIME being committed by the Sodomites.
eyeamok
Just emailed them a note of support.
Thank you. I sent them an email to get the support started. :)
As was stated sarcastically by a professor in another situation...
“ask God what your grade is”.
bttt
I think we need a new FACE law
FREE ACCESS to CREAMERY ENTRANCES
Complete with no protest bubble zone of about 200 feet, and ATF monitoring of all harassing phone calls and letters.
Fight fire with fire—come up with a list of homosexual-owned or pro-homosexual businesses and begin a boycott. Let the minority know that they’re still the minority.
These poor souls are deranged. Think about it: They can’t even get the most basic human instinct straight. Pathetic, really. We shouldn’t harm them, but we should ignore their deranged rantings...as with schizophrenics.

What's this 'moral equivalence' nonsense? What have the "Yes on 8" people done, other than simply donate to the referendum? Have they sent hate mail to "No on 8" supporters? Have they surrounded the businesses or religious institutions that opposed Prop 8, to harass them? Have they boycotted businesses that opposed Prop 8?
I didn't think so.
Speaking of Islamists, have the anti-Prop 8 people surrounded any mosques to protest the fact that Islam is anti-homosexual?
