Many of you have made comments on this site that illustrate your justified frustration about what America is turning into. I’ve tried to be optimistic publicly and privately.

If you won’t listen to me, here’s the most optimistic (almost to the point of my being giddy) retort to your pessimism.

Is it time to panic? No, my friends, it’s not time to panic, because nothing gets done in a panic. What we have to realize is this: the left, the Democrat Party, will not control the government forever. It just will not happen. They are going to overreach. They’re going to overreach pretty quickly.

Polling data already shows that, in a generic race for Congress, it’s tied Republican and Democrat. Only when you put the names in… Nobody can believe this. Fifty-six percent of the American people now are in opposition to the stimulus in total or in part.

He’s just warming up….

Not one Republican from the House, not one Republican Senator is involved in the conference between the House and the Senate to come up with a bill that both support. Not one Republican in this new era of responsibility, not one Republican in this new era of bipartisanship. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have shut the Republicans out. This is from Mike Pence, congressman from Indiana.

So, let ‘em go ahead with these tactics. We can’t stop them anyway. We lost the election. But they’re going to lose down the road. They will not control government forever, and when our turn comes, we are going to turn the power of government against the left. We are going to investigate them. We are going to hold public hearings. We are going to humiliate them. We’re going to nationalize their unions.

Yes...the polls have turned...BUT NOBODY IS REPORTING THIS. At least nobody in the MSM.

Now they move on Talk Radio...then Fox...then the internet...

...what happens when there’s only the Obama media left?

One thing that slows this down is they have to over-reach enough to turn off a significant portion of those who voted for them... not just the rational folks who knew better.

This really should be attributed to Rush Limbaugh. You wouldn’t know 90 percent of it was an exceprt from Rush unless you clicked on the link in the article.

Like their forefathers in the Soviet Union, it might well last 70+ years. That's enough to see me long dead. I'd prefer something a little more optimistic.

The media is SUCH a big enemy.....one has to wonder if some of the major figures...anchor types...aren’t being paid off?

I have been following presidential elections since 1956. I’ve never seen anything like this last one.

Obama got the kind of coverage Castro receives in Cuba.

Another thing that we must all do and support is the 10th amendment resolutions going through various state houses -

the Arizona resolution is the best so far:

Whereas, the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads as follows: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”; and

Whereas, the Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that specifically granted by the Constitution of the United States and no more; and

Whereas, the scope of power defined by the Tenth Amendment means that the federal government was created by the states specifically to be an agent of the states; and

Whereas, today, in 2009, the states are demonstrably treated as agents of the federal government; and

Whereas, many federal laws are directly in violation of the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Tenth Amendment assures that we, the people of the United States of America and each sovereign state in the Union of States, now have, and have always had, rights the federal government may not usurp; and

Whereas, Article IV, section 4, United States Constitution, says in part, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government”, and the Ninth Amendment states that “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people”; and

Whereas, the United States Supreme Court has ruled in New York v. United States, 112 S. Ct. 2408 (1992), that Congress may not simply commandeer the legislative and regulatory processes of the states; and

Whereas, a number of proposals from previous administrations and some now pending from the present administration and from Congress may further violate the Constitution of the United States.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring, that:

1. That the State of Arizona hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States.

2. That this Resolution serves as notice and demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers.

3. That all compulsory federal legislation that directs states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties or sanctions or requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding be prohibited or repealed.

4. That the Secretary of State of the State of Arizona transmit copies of this resolution to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate of each state’s legislature and each Member of Congress from the State of Arizona.

I am not saying that this viewpoint is wrong but I am saying that it ignores some very significant realities. Governments and their bureaucracies follow the biological imperative to grow or die and its mainly the former rather than the latter. Very few professional politicians stay in office by reducing government, can anyone name me even one?

Every government spending program rapidly establishes a constituency and bureaucracy that will defend it. In my lifetime only one government agency has been abolished, the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) [1887-1995]. When I was born (1950), there were only 9 Presidential Cabinet Positions; State, Treasury, Attorney General, Defense, Interior, Commerce, Agriculture, Postmaster and Labor. There are now 15 Cabinet Departments WITHOUT Postmaster, an 88% increase. Spending the Trillion plus dollars will grow this government and make it stronger and more pervasive and INVASIVE. Anyone think that the next conservative government, even if it was the second coming of Reagan, will shrink any piece of the Federal Government?

The Rat party is a criminal enterprise that intends to seize even more power and to cement it by cuting off free speach and depriving us of the power of our vote.
Everything that they are doing is with the intention of undermining our rights by using organizations like Acorn and LaRaza to steal elections. They plan to distort the census to give more congressional districts to cities where Acorn and LaRaza hold sway. They will try and control the state and local people counting the votes. They plan to grant amnesity and voting rights to millions of illegal aliens asap.
Anybody who thinks we can just sit back and wait for them to “over-reach” is crazy. We need to fight every battle with the congress and every by-election. Plus we need to get involved with the election process in our own communities.

And noting:

I’d think that if the first above was followed, there wouldn’t be a lot, or any, federal funding coming the state’s way anyhow.

I can’t think of a reason to believe there is such a biological imperiative.

If there was, old folks would be a lot taller and weigh more than they do.

I think “Grow or die” is a misconception that causes a lot of trouble.

Obama will be Jimmy Carter writ large. Obama will lose popularity among his own voters on two fronts: The people who have some brain cells left who drank the Kool-Aid and now have second thoughts. The idiots who really believed that The One would give them a house and a new car. The former will be more thoughtful in 2010 and 2012 while the latter will just conclude that Obama is a tool of "the man" and they won't bother voting.

There are still big challenges ahead. Obama will give millions of Mexican citizens the right to stay in America and vote. This will alienate (no pun intended) everyone else and especially the black community (more people thrown under Obama's bus). But it will be millions of more votes for the Democrats. There will be a move to restrict political speech and criminalize simple fact-finding about any Obama administration scandal. A lot of people will be angry about the economy by 2012 (can you say, stagflation?) but opposition may be disorganized depending on how effective Obama is in censoring and criminializing dissent.

Bingo. And as a college instructor I can tell you that the media window to the world, the "matrix", is so deeply consuming that very very few youth really think for themselves.

It transcends "politics."

As we have maintained elsewhere on Free Republic, it is going to take pure, fundamental, philosophic communication to break through.

Like on the order of Socrates, Christ, Shakespeare, Voltaire, Wells, Camus, Jaynes, etc, etc.

Any "Republicans" like that around?

Between now and the next elections, if there ever are any, a lot of damage can ensue.

The only upside as I see it is that there is so much pork in this bill that no self respecting Muslim will come anywhere near the USA for fear of Allah backlash! /snic
