Kathmandu, Feb 11 (PTI) Nepal's ruling Maoists, who joined the mainstream politics over two years ago after giving up arms, may be taken off a terrorism blacklist of the US, top American diplomat Richard Boucher told Premier Prachanda here today.
Boucher, the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs who is here on a two-day visit, assured Prachanda of continued US support to the Maoist-led government during a meeting between them.
He discussed with Prachanda issues relating to political situation in Nepal, the peace process, army integration, Constitution drafting and economic cooperation, according to Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Hira Bahadur Thapa.
They also discussed the issue of removing the Maoists from the terrorist list of the US government during their half-an-hour meeting. Boucher informed the Prime Minister that the process of taking the Maoists off the terrorist list has moved in the positive direction, Thapa said.
Boucher is the first high-level US official to visit Nepal after the Maoists formed government five months ago and President Barack Obama assumed office as the 44th President of the United States on January 20.
If this “Maoist” government is in fact working for the welfare of the population, is not allied with China, and is not engaged in or supporting terrorist activities, then perhaps it might make sense. I read recently that some elements of the Taliban in Afghanistan are talking about ending rebellion. Recognizing a reformed “Maoist” government might give the more moderate factions of other extremist groups incentives toward peace. Of course, I am prejudiced, my Special Forces son is headed for Afghanistan some time this year.

Maoist terror reigns along Jharkhand national highway - December 11, 2008 - Ranchi (IANS): Maoist rebels have struck fear in the hearts of people residing along the national highway linking Jharkhand capital Ranchi to steel city Jamshedpur by murdering at least 10 security personnel and a politician in the area in the last 10 months. Maoist revenge kills rally leader - Midnapore, Dec. 11: A tribal leader who had played a leading role in an anti-Maoist protest in Belpahari two days ago was shot dead this evening. Sudhir Mandi was returning home with his wife on a cycle from the weekly haat (bazaar) when eight masked men armed with single-barrel guns and daggers pounced on him. They had apparently been waiting for him behind a clump of bush along the bumpy road lined with thick forest. Two of them dragged Mandis wife away. The rest shot him and slit his throat. Mandi died on the spot, a Belpahari police officer said. The residents of Jordanga 250km from Calcutta rushed in as Mandis wife raised the alarm. A week ago, Maoists had asked Mandi to dissociate himself from the Bharat Jakat Majhi Marwa, which organised Tuesdays meeting. Mandi refused to do so, said a district leader of the Jharkhand Janmukti Morcha. Elected to the Binpur-II panchayat samiti as an Independent in May, Mandi, 46, had joined the Morcha, formed after a split in the Jharkhand Party (Naren). He was also an active member of the Majhi Marwa.

"Mao Tse Tung ... had a billion people whose lives he had to transform."..."the idea of Mao Tse Tung became the idea of a billion people, and China became a world power on the base of the culture and the arts community. If we had a ministry of art and culture in every city we'd create this movement [in the U.S.]."

Malik Zulu Shabazz, chairman of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (NBPP):
"We are happy today to be standing side by side with the Nation of Islam. We believe, like the Nation of Islam and the Honorable Elijah Muhammad believe, in a nation of our own. We believe in a Black first philosophy and a Black Liberation Theology. We dont worry about the criticism. We love all of those who labored in the Panther Party from the 60s. Many are with us today."

From the article: REVOLUTIONARY HEROES
"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo.
Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.
The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."
To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."
