Tennessee Republicans throw House speaker Williams out of the party

NASHVILLE -- State Republican Party Chairman Robin Smith today ousted new Tennessee House Speaker Kent Williams from the party for voting with all 49 House Democrats last month to elect himself speaker over his party's nominee in a 50-49 vote.

Williams said afterward that he still considers himself "a Carter County Republican" -- after his home county and legislative district -- and said that he's likely to run for re-election to the House next year as an independent.

Under Tennessee election law, the state Republican Party is allowed to deny anyone whom it deems is not a bona fide party member a spot on the Republican Primary ballot. That means that if Williams runs again next year -- and the state GOP doesn't change its mind -- he will appear only on the general election ballot without a party affiliation.

The Party here may finally be growing a pair. I wonder if they’ll consider Corker and Alexander over some of their recent votes.

Somebody hurry — call Michael Steele.

Rules change that would allow the national organization to do this to betrayers

Anybody know how this whole episode came about? How did this guy get so chummy with dems that he could be a party to this plot?

Last year in Minnesota, there were six Republican members of the state legislature who voted to over-ride Gov Pawlenty’s veto of a Dem-sponsored gast tax increase.

2 decided to retire not long after the vote, 2 were defeated in the GOP primary and 2 survived their primaries but had the brown fecal matter scared out of ‘em.

The only downside to the Senate is that there’s not much a way to punish Senators who don’t toe the party line. About the only recourse is knocking ‘em off in their primaries.

Now see, this is how we do it in Tennessee!!!!!

Arleen Spectator, and the Maine twisted sisters need the
same treatment, even if they still turn and vote no
on the stim-u-lie, due to fraternization with the enemy.

ego over doing the right thing would be my guess—just like any self serving person who lacks integrity and loyalty. Great guestion. The story of this is somewhat compelling. I am not sure I could stomach it with all that is going on right now.

Williams ceased to be a Republican when he was elected by the entire Democrat caucus... and himself. His calling himself a “Republican” while the power remained with the Democrats caused us damage, because the Dems could claim the GOP is in the majority, when it is obvious we aren’t. Traitor Kent got his. Now on to knock him out of the legislature for harrassing another State Rep...

Well, now you can do it to Corker, too, after what he just pulled a few minutes ago.

He's been a Dim in all but name for years. This should have been done long ago.
