The word racist may not have passed Bob Schieffers lips, but that certainly seemed to be the implication of his commentary on Sundays Face the Nation.
While talking about Michael Steele, former Maryland Lieutenant Governor and newly-elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, he said:
So it was that the party of Lincoln which had freed the slaves, but in the process had become the party of mainly white people, came full circle and turned to an African-American Moses to lead it out of the political wilderness.
So from Schieffers point of view,

that’s recurrent theme for democrats.
I didn;t see the broadcast but, from what was said here, it appears that he was just stating facts. Is he capable of being biased? Most certainly. But this doesn’t appear to be such an occasion.
If Steele is Moses, doesnt that make Obama the pharaoh?
What did you expect from this moron? From his small mind come small thoughts!
It's the Democrats who think that non-whites have such limited intelligence that they need extra points on many civil-service tests and need the racist boos of affirmative action.
This race road the democrats have started will end in bloodshed and further rip the US to shreads.
Very, very sad.
So sad that the Left always sees things through the lens of the color of skin. Michael Steele is an accomplished politician and person. I hope he will be the strong, Conservative voice that he’s always been. He’s a good choice, not just a Black Conservative.
Mr. Schieffer! what would you have the republicans do?
Clearly the black population fell for a hoax.
They believed the libs lies, and now they have enslaved themselves - they’ve allowed their fathers to leave their families thus ensuring a bleak future for the sons and daughters.
Once daddy left the house the government filled the gap.
Modern day slavery.
Republicans would still like to free the slaves, but the slaves appear to be happy where they are.
Ignore him. He is just a mind numbed robot.
Leahy told us last night that if we weren’t in favor of Holder for AG, we were racist, supporters of slavery and the Dred Scot decision. It was just after 6PM Eastern, so my Senators had turned on their answering machines.
Spectre didn’t rebut the statement at all.
I say the ones who keep commenting on the race of people are the racists. Holder fails to impress me because of his actions, not his race.
Leahy is and always has been contemptible, and Specter needs to find his testicles.
When these idiot so-called pundits make statements like this, the GOP should demand that they be fired!
He’s a lifelong second banana that has never gotten over it. His aw-shucks Texan act was already in use by Dan Rather which left Schieffer a bit nowhere.
He’s well past retirement age but this JFK-era pool reporter is determined to keep boring us with some Quixotic search for relevance.
Not really. The "government as daddy" only perpetuated the cycle of teenage girls getting pregnant without a support system other than government, and of young thugs growing up to be criminals without the control rods that fathers are intended to be.
and one big reason why the babymommas don’t marry the babydaddies is because our system of welfare discourages marriage and encourages illegitmate childbearing by giving those girls “raises” for every illegitimate child.
So - once you get a generation or two of boys and girls who don’t know what it’s like to have dad in the house - this is what you get.
And they keep voting for the status quo.
I’m torn between
“liberals are too damn stupid and arrogant to recognize what they’ve done”
and
“I know the bastards did this on purpose”
I think it’s a mix of the two.
The bastards who know what they are doing have managed to fool the damn stupid/arrogant ones.
