Happy Birthday Ayn Rand!
The Atlas Society - The Center for Objectivism ^ | 2/2/2009 | Edward Hudgins

Posted on 02/02/2009 2:57:24 PM PST by Ed Hudgins

February 2, 2009 -- Ayn Rand was born on February 2, 1905; in 2009 we are sorry to be seeing the foresight she had of her future and our present. Is Atlas shrugging? Will Obama be the real-life Mr. Thompson?

Join with us to celebrate Ayn Rand's great achievements and the legacy that she left us all!

Just look at the influence Rand has had on today's world:

Her strong moral defense of freedom and capitalism inspired many who have fought over the years for limited government, individual liberty and free markets.

Her great novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, show the terrible consequences of the wrong philosophy on both individuals and societies and present the vision of happy, joyous lives in a benevolent society that is the consequence of human achievement, good will and the right philosophy.

And her development of the philosophy of Objectivism offers us a guide for such lives in such a world.

Ayn Rand's books continue to sell hundreds of thousands of copies: the day they won't do so will be the day they are not needed anymore...

Much of the progress towards freedom in recent decades can be traced to Rand's influence. But today we still face many serious problems -- Islamo-fascism, the collapse of the nominally limited-government Republicans in America, the rise of the new Statism of the Obamacrats, the worldwide rise of the cult of environmentalism. The antidote to these problems can be found in a commitment to the objective reality of this world; to reason as our guide to understanding it; to our own lives and rational, responsible, principled self-interest as our highest goal; to a culture that celebrates human achievement; and to governments that respect and protect the lives, liberty and property of citizens. In other words, Objectivism!

Big fan of both books, you can really see some of what happened in Atlas Shrugged taking place. Apart from her atheism, I love me some Ayn Rand

Wonder how she would feel about Obama and the democrats turning ‘Atlas Shrugged’ into a reality show?

I’m not the genius here at 668, but if not for Ayn Rand my head might as well have been filled with straw. From her books I learned how to think clearly.

I think she had this called all along. A true prophet.

If that atheist’s the best role model out there, we’re in trouble.

If you can write as well as that atheist a powerful and influential pro-freedom, pro-reason novel like Atlas Shrugged, which described over 50 years ago what the statists are doing to us today, I will read it with great interest.

Ditto that...Ayn Rand put so much of what I abstractly, inherently already knew into very good stories. I compare reading Ayn Rand to the first time I listened to Limbaugh. I couldn’t believe someone else, media-wise, thought the same way as me about so many things.

"We can evade reality, but we cannot evade of consequences of evading reality."
~Ayn Rand~

Leftists and the dumb driven cattle who follow them and believe their ravings cannot comprehend this simple but profound bit of wisdom.

I wonder if I wouldn't have been a Communist if not for her works? And her "Introduction to Objectivist Epistomology" is superior intellecutally to her fiction.

Since she likes Rachmaninoff, here is some Rachmaninoff for her: Prelude in C# Minor
Prelude in g flat minor
Prelude in E flat major

For the person interested in the nature of freedom and its statist enemies, I think reading the Bible and an a microeconomics textbook is a better use of time than subjection to Rand’s ponderous literary hammer blows. The fable of the trees in the 9th chapter of the Old Testament book of Judges gives a better understanding of the nature of governing usurpers than all of Rand’s writings put together.

I finally got my own hardcover copy of Atlas Shrugged. The book deserves that rather than a paperback or getting a copy from the library.
