We hate the media. You hate the media. But we love our TVs more than our wives. Thats why this story is so infuriating.
California regulators want to ban the sale of plasma and LCD TVs because they use too much energy. The new rules could cost the state up to $130 million in sales and income taxes annually. So if the greens get their way, theyll drive the state even further into the red.
Sales of plasma and LCDs,..

I guess I should not have taken those old big box tube sets to the recycling center yet!

Screw them. I’ll buy my 60” plasma in Nevada.

You couldn’t make this up if you tried. Stoned, drunk,
and sleepless you couldn’t dream up something this insane.

Anyone up for a little business in the black market? I'm sure we can make a s***load of money smuggling TVs into California but be advised. We'll probably get more time in prison (if not executed) than drug dealers and human traffickers should we get caught.

F*** off, Cali.
This is so ridiculous. They worry about friggin plasma TV’s when in reality they could be worrying about balancing their budget and reducing the burden on the state budget brought on by illegal immigrants.

What has the state done to increase capacity?
Also, just how much juice does a flat screen TV (LCD and Plasma) use when compared to a comparable tube TV?

They should build an extra nuke plant or maybe several to accommodate the electricity needs of California citizens.

Did you see the TV exposé in which they got these dumb klunks to sign a petition banning
oxygen dihydride--without telling them that
oxygen dihydride is water.
It's enough to make you run screaming into the night to think that these nutcases are running around loose.

The problem with environmentalists is not their concern for the environment, it's their utter inability to form a cohesive thought. What was it, five years ago, that they were pushing flat panel televisions because of the environmental damage done by cathode ray tubes. Similarly, thermometers can no longer have mercury in them because of the environmental damage, but they're mandating fluorescent lights, which do. Most homes average about one thermometer every five years, and maybe fifty or more light bulbs, so guess which is going to end up in the trash more often?
Don't even get me started on the environmental damage done by environmental policies that prevent the building of firebreaks and allow the massive California wildfires to destroy hundreds of thousands of acres of land every year.
Also, they never seem to learn. No matter how much damage their policies call, they're always ready to jump in the streets, protest and throw fits whenever the next environmental "trend" comes along.

And Ironically, Panasonic is coming out with a line of plasmas now that consume 50% less power.

Great way to stimulate the economy. Ban the sale of things people actually WANT to buy
To: slomark
Yes, the Socialists will regulate your light bulbs, cars and TV sets. Next, the food you eat and the number of children you have.
Ain’t Socialism grand?!

Our LCD has an energy star emblem on it (46” Sony). There is very little heat given off especially when compared to the old 32” Trinitron. I have heard that LCD’s use far less energy than plasmas but I’ve been wrong before...heck, I voted for a democrat once.

These are NOT "do-gooders"...these are people who don't have plasma TV's dumping on the ones who do.
I think the prime requirement to be a liberal is a seething and uncontrollable penchant for envy. They don't want people to have anything they don't have two of already; they hate it when people are happy; they hate the rich because they are not; and they support minorities only because it makes them feel good about themselves.
These nasty people (from the pics I've seen of them, I wouldn't even eat in the vacinity of them) are here on earth to get attention and wreak havoc.
When is someone going to tell them to "shut the f*** up and sit the f*** down"?
