In Sanilac County the jobless rate jumped to 15.5%, in Tuscola County 13.7% of the workforce was out of a job, 13.5% in St. Clair County, 12.3% in Genesee County, 10.9% in Macomb County, and 8.6% in Oakland County.
Elsewhere in the region, Huron County recorded a jobless rate of 12.4%, Saginaw County 10.4%, while to the south in Wayne County the unemployment rate in December was 11.7%.
The state's lowest unemployment rate for December was in Washtenaw County (Ann Arbor) with 6.9%, while Mackinac County in the Upper Peninsula had the highest jobless rate with 24.2%.
In December, around three-quarters of Michigan's counties (63) reported jobless rates of 10% or above.

While McCormick and the more than 4,650 other Lapeer County residents that are out of work ponder their futures and do what they can to pay the bills, a leading state economist told the WJR-AM 760 radio audience Wednesday morning that "the worst is unfortunately probably still yet to come." He said the state may hit 12% unemployment in January.

It’s like the guy poking a finger in his eye and bitching about how much it hurts. Keep voting in Democrats and it will only get worse.

How much longer before the people of Michigan realize that everywhere DemocRats are elected in abundance and their policies are enacted, this is the result? Michigan, New York, California, Massachusetts, the list goes on and on.....Decades of DemocRat control has reduced all these states to basket cases....

Granholms fault!Maybe...and the City of Detroit sucking off funds from outstate.
Washtenaw County is a fat nest of Liberals, Greenies and university populations. No wonder it has such a good employment rate.

The Democrats have ruled Pittsburgh for the last 85 years. If the Democrats had the right answer, Pittsburgh, PA would be a paradise. It instead reminds me of a third world city.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
My little sister lives and works in downtown Lapeer, and I can guarantee that things are going to get much worse in Lapeer county before they get any better.

I hope the governor has shovel ready projects to snap into action. She should pass an emergency jobs order to shovel snow from Walmart parking lots so consumers can get there to buy stuff
