American Jewish Rabbis Show Solidarity with Vatican against Obama's Anti-Life Measures

NEW YORK, January 27, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) -  Rabbi Yehuda Levin, spokesman for Rabbinical Alliance of America, will be in Rome Thursday meeting with high ranking Vatican officials. While there he will express solidarity regarding the recent Vatican criticisms of US President Barack Obama and his executive order which has permitted US taxpayer funds to be given to organizations performing and lobbying for abortion internationally.

Levin will be representing over 800 Orthodox Jewish Rabbis who form the Rabbinical Alliance of America. His visit is being coordinated by the Rome office of Human Life International.

Following Obama's overturning of the Mexico City Policy Friday, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, head of the Pontifical Academy for Life, said that "if this is one of President Obama's first acts, I have to say, in all due respect, that we're heading quickly toward disappointment." He added, "It is essential to know how to listen to all of the requests of the country without shutting one's self up in an ideological vision with the arrogance of thinking that having power means the power over life and death."

Levin told LifeSiteNews.com of the reason for the journey saying,  "I was spiritually envious of Archbishop Fisichella for jumping to the forefront in identifying the serious concerns that religious family people in America and the world over have with Obama's first week in the presidency."  He added: "This has motivated the Rabbis to send me on this special trip to the Vatican to show physically for the world to see that we stand shoulder to shoulder, and we appreciate and encourage the continued outspokenness and leadership which the Vatican and her various personalities are taking in defending life and family values."

Big deal...

54% of Catholics and 70+% of Jews voted for him.

I’m NOT impressed by this “speaking out”.

Rabbi Yehuda Levin >>

He’s Orthodox, most of the conservative and reformed Jews are left-wing democrats. And, I’m saying from MY own experience, of the few Conservative and Reformed Jews who are republican, most of them are pro-abortion.

Anyway, I’m glad he’s out in the forefront, he always gives a good speech at the march for life, G-d Bless him for what he does. The Orthodox Jews have large families and practice what they preach.

This is exactly what is needed. All sincere people of faith need to put aside for now differences in theology and fight the real enemy - atheism, secularism, humanism, and the culture of death and depravity.

Jews vote Democrat, the Party of Death, in every election. Maybe the rabbis should work on that.

You have to be careful about identifying someone as a Catholic (or a Jew). Recently a FReeper posted some really nasty statements about the Pope. They identified themselves as a Catholic. When I posted my doubts "you're about as Catholic as Ted Kennedy", I received a reply which included this:

"Having been brain washed by priests and nuns in french Catholic schools.

Decided not to follow my Catholic upbringing having lost respect for the church many years ago."

There are many like this FReeper who identify themselves as Catholic but, in reality, are nothing of the sort. Why they do this I don't know. You will find that actual practicing, church going Catholics are pretty conservative. I suspect the same is true of actual practicing, synagogue going Jews.

Rabbi Levin can always be counted on.

Thank G-d he is engaged in this important work while other rabbis (Orthodox?) are completely absorbed by the content of Catholic prayers and promoting "ecumenism!"

There are many like this FReeper who identify themselves as Catholic but, in reality, are nothing of the sort.

There was another Freeper a few years ago during the Catholic priest sex scandals that claimed to have been molested as a 12 year-old by a priest, and he hated the Catholic church for that reason. It turned out he was a big-time flake who lied about that and several other things. It's easy to be a fraud on the internet until you're called to back your claims up.

Good heavens. Would you seek to squash the support that we need? Cynicism never created a movement for good.

I'll give an “Atta’ Boy” to anyone willing to stand up and say “Enough”. The work starts right where you are. I don't care what we say within the four walls of our house, but for the sake of Conservatism, we need to “Sell it, Baby, sell it.” We have a beautiful way of life. It's satisfying. It serves something greater than ourselves. We are the most generous, loving nation in the world when we stand together against evil.

Like they say — the American people can either be your best friend (if you stand up for the weak, poor and underdog), or your worst enemy (if you trample them). The Rabbi has a friend in me.
