The only time I go near NOLA during Mardi Gras is when we have relatives visiting. They always want to go to Mardi Gras in NOLA. I like the local parades myself.

Me too. Bay St Louis and Pass Christian have (That's Pass kris-TEE-anne, for those non-locals) great family oriented parades. All the beads, colors and not as much of the rowdy crowds as NOLA. The Pass was getting a bit rough until Katrina. Biloxi and Gulfport are like mini NOLAS. Mobile has GREAT parades and excellent, well behaved crowds.

You, know, folks did not understand how important Mardi Gras - 2006 was to this region. I'm sure you did.
