WASHINGTON -- Though the leadership of the Republican National Committee will meet in Washington this week to elect a chairman tasked with rebuilding the floundering party, even at this late date there is no clear frontrunner for the job, according to a recent phone and email survey of the RNC's 168 members conducted by National Journal's Hotline On Call.
While incumbent chairman Mike Duncan has an advantage among the six candidates hoping to lead the GOP, more members said they were undecided than supporting Duncan. And even more declined or did not respond to requests for comment.
Opinions varied widely about who has the best communication skills and leadership record necessary to transition the party out of the doldrums.
"We don't have the perfect candidate, but we have some who are more perfect than less perfect," said one Western region committeeman who asked not to be identified.
Duncan, who has presided over the GOP since January 2007, leads the pack with 25 committed supporters. He is trailed by Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, who is backed by 17 members; South Carolina Party chairman Katon Dawson, 12 supporters, Michigan Party chairman Saul Anuzis, 11 supporters; and former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, with 10. Chip Saltsman, who led Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign, does not have a solid vote, according to On Call's reporting.

it’s = its...in the comment.
Duncan needs to go. He is awful. Anyone else would be preferable.
This is the guy who was holding the bag on the 08 election.
Are the pubbies out of their minds?!?!
Duncan? Are you @!^!ing kidding me?
This guy should have committed “haiku” on November 5th.
FYI...not good news for Ken Blackwell.
I think Katon Dawson would be good too.
No, its not. Damn shame.
As the first post on this thread noted, the GOP still doesn’t ‘get it’.
The media would have a field day with Dawson and his country club association. Not a good thing IMO. The MSM would never let it go.
I swear, the Republican Party must be controlled by sexually deviant leadership and politicians. Why else would they be so masochistic?
Most of us did that a long time ago, but the RNC office doesn't know it.
Conservatives are being ignored and bypassed AGAIN.
This is a freep. This is why we're here, not to just talk witty to each other. Don't wait until it's too late.
Put your pithiest comment in the email title. Keep the message itself short but sweet.
Get busy. Let your fingers do the talkin'.

The NRCC called me for a donation on Saturday. I told the guy to tell Boehner that while he was “reaching across the aisle” to the democrats, to ask them for money, because they sure as he!! weren’t getting any more from me.
BTW, Blackwell’s wife recently retired as Superintendant of schools in Cincinnati. Fine, fine people, both of them.

Considering what is going on and who is being seriously considered “flux” is probably a good term to use as in flux = dysentery which leads to loose fecal discharge.
I know, and I couldn’t agree with you more about the Blackwell’s, h ving met them both a couple of times, and Ken Blackwell numerous times.
Neither would know me from a hole in the ground to be clear. But as I noted last week in this forum, I’ve found myself voting for Ken many times since the 1970’s, and I’ve never once regretted it.
Can Duncan do any better? I thought he lost all the meaningful races this time. Is their more for him to lose?
One thing I have learned over the years...
Anytime I see politicians do something monumentally stupid, something that completely violates logic and common sense, FOLLOW THE MONEY.
I guarantee you, folks, this thing with Duncan is about CA$H. YOu, the conservative base, are worthless to these people.
