Michigan's 41 prisons go totally tobacco-free one week from today. Indoors and out.
Minnesota pulled this off a few years ago and there have been no ‘reported’ problems...
Of course not...
They need to repeal this idea. The expanded S-chip program and the kids need their money.
Darn it, now the S-chip program will have to impose a tax hike on everyone if this keeps up.
Watch for riots due to nicotine w/d.
Dang! Due to the fail(ed) economy in this state, I was planning on turning to a life a crime (free room and board, heat above our house mandated 66 degrees, 3 squares a day)..but due to the non-smoking policy, I may have to re-think my career choice!
....our state went smoke free in an effort to cut DOC health care costs; which are skyrocketing....the aging prison population is growing by leaps and bounds.
I know they’ll probably say that this is for the health of both employees and the imprisoned, but it occurs to me that there are some other possible benefits from this. No cigarette smoking means that it’s harder to hide the use of marijuana. It also means there’s no legitimate reason for inmates to have matches or lighters.
I wonder if the state will be offering smoking-cessation programs and treatments to inmates - nicotine gum and patches, Chantrix, etc.
Yes, the inmates were offered smoking cessation classes.
Does that include Pot.
The only thing this will do is cause trouble at every level,Prisoners who`ve smoked all their life may see some small benefits, but when the Feds did this,it just opened up
a new level of tobacco smuggling;mostly from the guards, hard to turn down 150.00 for 1 pack of smokes,a cool 1000.00 per carton............
My goodness. I expect to read of lawsuits in the coming months charging that the prison administrators are engaging in torture!
We’ll just wait for the announcement of riots.
I don’t see the problem with this. If law abiding citizens are prohibited from smoking indoors on private property, why should criminals be permitted to do so on public property?
Ok. But let outlaw drugs & sex....that’ll be the tipping point (so to speak)
