The closing of Guantanamo Bay detention center and using the Army Field Manual as the basis for all interrogation is aimed at protecting Americans, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday.
In his first press conference since President Obama was inaugurated, Gibbs said the orders "made America safer, made America stronger."
"The president believes that there's no more important job that he has than to keep the American people safe," Gibbs said at the White House press briefing room.
"The president believes that what he did today will enhance the security of the American people, that it lives up to our values as Americans, and that it will protect the men and women that we have in uniform," he said.

Yeah! That’s it! They were mad because we had the audacity to lock up Muslims that killed 3000 Americans. Let’s give ‘em jobs while we’re at it. White House staff sounds good.
Only Conservatives would want a rationale and we don't count anymore.

I haven't seen much indication that what this president believes has any connection to reality, and this foolish decision adds to my concern. If he wants Guantanamo closed, I hope he'll give each terrorist a fair trial first, execute them all, and then close the facility.

Yes. But Platitudes and rationals that will serve them well in the upcoming war crime trials of the Bush Administration.
When Major Garrett of Fox News asked if the government captured Osama bin Laden would they now have nothing to use in trying him but the procedures in the Military Service Manual, Gibbs was stumped and said he’d have to ask Greg Craig, Castro’s lawyer in the Elian Gonzalez kidnapping and now BO’s mouthpiece. Both he and BO repeatedly had to refer to Craig for help in their first press appearances. They are not ready for prime time.
So, is this anything like “destroying the village in order to save it”?
Gibbs better hope not one of these terrorists kill another American before his time as Press Secretary is over.
