When stimulus funds flow, suburbs ready to roll (like Uncle Bill passed away and left you some money

Town have lists of projects that were put on hold because of the economy By Susan Kuczka and Carolyn Starks | Tribune reporters January 21, 2009 As Congress considers an economic-stimulus package, officials across the north and northwest suburbs have offered their own visions for how new money coming their way could best be spent.

From retrofitting government buildings in Highland Park to putting up a new water tower in Hoffman Estates, officials are viewing the stimulus plan as a proverbial pot of gold.

"This is a wish list of what we'd like to do," Palatine Mayor Rita Mullins said as she ticked off $60 million worth of projects the village would like to see funded.

The Palatine list includes everything from a new police headquarters to sewer-repair work—projects that have been put on hold due to the economic downturn.

The stimulus package expected to be approved by Congress has breathed new energy into projects that suburban officials now believe could get under way sooner rather than later, Mullins said.

"It's like if your Uncle Bill passed away and left you some money," she said. "Those things that you wanted to do and planned to do someday could actually become a reality."

Suburbs of Chicago, but I'll bet every town has a wish list prepared. Vital projects they wouldn't stick local taxpayers with, but if Uncle Bill dies, OK.

Given the way the bailout money flowed I wouldn’t get too excited about it.

Despite the Dalai Bama’s claim that he won’t do business with lobbyists, a big portion of his stimulus will go directly into the coffers of lobbying firms. There is hardly a city, county, or state in this country that has not hired a lobbyist to get their pet projects included and paid for.

Whoa! I live in Palatine and this is news to me. Rita and the Village Council have done a good job of managing the finances. My taxes have barely budged over the 14 years I’ve been here. I really don’t think we need the stimulus money. Especially if it comes with conditions...like Obambi’s posters hanging from the lampposts or renaming the Village Hall as The Obama Center.

LOL...I guess these dumb Dems haven’t heard that the money won’t start being released until the end of 2010, and the bulk of it would be scheduled to be released AFTER BO’s first term in office.
This government is so flat broke that they’ll have to beg a loan from the Chinese before they can give it away to these bumbling pols, who will spend it as wastefully as the Dems in MA did with the disastrous Big Dig.

Little boy walks up to his grandfather and asks....Grampy...can u make a noise like a frog?..

Grandfather asks....why do u ask....

Little boy replies....’Cause mommy said when you croak....We're all going to Hawaii!
