Melanie, I always love your perspective as one of the few voices of reason in the UK, but let’s not forget that Britain’s abolition of slavery in the Empire occurred just a few years before that of the US. Our two nations share a common history of slavery from which we have both emerged.

Agreed. The UK gradually stopped slavery, in fits and starts in their legislature over decades.

In typical American fashion we threw a huge war to “stop slavery”.

Then backtracked our way through reconstruction.

However, I suspect the hysteria we are seeing today goes far beyond race relations or even history overall.
It looks to me like sociological projection and modern media driven celebrity worship; a disturbing development in US political life.
