It must be because she's a Brit that she considers this a "shockingly recent memory". I'm not young, and my memories are of bussing, AA, quotas, "diversity" over merit...

Beside not being current history, beside all the white blood shed to end it, the English have a bit of a history with slavery. Amazing Grace was written by John Newton, a one-time slave-trader and subject of the royal crown.
