As Challenges Mount, Ardor for Obama Cools Abroad

As challenges mount, ardor for Obama cools abroad

By WILLIAM J. KOLE, Associated Press Writer

Barack Obama got a global standing ovation long before he was elected president. But in a fickle and fast-moving world, the overseas reviews are already turning mixed. Though much of the world will party through the night Tuesday after Obama is sworn in as America's 44th president — just as it did when he was elected — there are signs the ardor is cooling as the sheer weight of his challenges sinks in. A deepening global recession, new hostilities in the Middle East, complications in closing the Guantanamo Bay prison, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan — an impatient world has a stake in all of them and is asking how much change Obama can deliver.

"Just two months ago, the future president seemed a cross between Superman and Merlin the magician," Massimo Gramellini wrote in a commentary for Italy's La Stampa newspaper. "Now he himself admits he won't be able to keep all his promises, and who knows?

Maybe someone will ask for his impeachment by the end of next week."

"The idealism has diminished," said Samuel Solvit, who heads an Obama support network in France. "Everyone was dreaming a little. Now people are more realistic."

He was the new toy on Christmas Day. Now, they realised that it was made out of cheap plastic and with poor workmanship.

The Obama bubble is going to burst, and the AP can’t do anything about it.

Obama has a simple plan for dealing with America's enemies. It's to find their sealed divorce records. It's already worked twice for him.

When the Marxist BS is over with, and Zero has to deliver as a strong U.S. president, HE will be over with. Socialists do not like to get involved in ANYTHING except their own empowerment and rule. Like Carter and Clinton, he will weaken the military and pander to our enemies. The only thing he will do internationally is give away MORE taxpayer money to buy favor. Typical socialist.

Sigh....so many rose-colored glasses around here....those who are sitting around hoping for America to wake up. It’s simply not going to happen. The delusion is too strong, and all of Bambi’s talk about “patience” will lull the masses into a stupor....waiting for something - even though they know not what they wait for.

The problem is that even if it bursts here - which it will - he’s going to be president by then and is going to consolidate power very fast. Just watch.

They haven't invested quite as much of their credibility and futures in 0bama's phoney baloney. And, frankly, they're not quite as ignorant politically as US 0bama supporters.

Some people feel sorry for Obama?

He brought this all on himself by promising everyone everything and acting like he was God's gift to humanity. Now, there is only one way to go from the lofty position he claimed for himself and that is DOWN.

As far as I’m concerned, Europe can take care of their own damned problems. They can pay the money for their own defense forces. And they can take their constant cheating of America on “free trade” and shove it.

They wanted an America that wouldn’t “interfere” when terrorists and aggressors threaten them. OK, you’re on your own. You deal with it.

It’s going to burst sometime over the next four years because of all the things that conservatives tried to point out about him during the campaign. I expect that most of the issues will resurface a little at a time. The preacher will come back, his lost records will begin to surface, his wife’s position with the hospital and the money the hospital received will all be questioned eventually along with numerous other issues that we have discussed here. We just have to have patience.

Actually, an American president who has time to spend on issues other than his own image can do a lot to fix world problems. President Bush did an awful lot for Africa and the Pacific Rim. They appreciate it. Iraq and Afghanistan, along with some former SSRs, are happy with him as well.
A President who wants to be popular with the UN and the socialists is the one who can't fix world problems, or even our own.

Actually, an American president who has time to spend on issues other than his own image can do a lot to fix help find solutions to world problems.

If phrased in the way I modified your response to my post, then I'd agree. However, anyone who treasures and wants to conserve the United States Constitution absolutely must insist that our nation's chief executive is President of the United States only, not president of the world. An understanding of the critical nature of this point is essential to successful opposition to the domestic and international Left's push for a world government.

I see the merit in your correction, but the US is the most powerful nation in the world, and it is US leadership, with other countries’ cooperation that fixes the problems, not the other way around.

You didn’t say, but I believe, that if the US President is Leftist, then the world’s problems will not be eased. Leftist policies have never improved anything except the fortunes of assorted despots and dictators.
