As challenges mount, ardor for Obama cools abroad
By WILLIAM J. KOLE, Associated Press Writer
Barack Obama got a global standing ovation long before he was elected president. But in a fickle and fast-moving world, the overseas reviews are already turning mixed. Though much of the world will party through the night Tuesday after Obama is sworn in as America's 44th president just as it did when he was elected there are signs the ardor is cooling as the sheer weight of his challenges sinks in. A deepening global recession, new hostilities in the Middle East, complications in closing the Guantanamo Bay prison, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan an impatient world has a stake in all of them and is asking how much change Obama can deliver.
"Just two months ago, the future president seemed a cross between Superman and Merlin the magician," Massimo Gramellini wrote in a commentary for Italy's La Stampa newspaper. "Now he himself admits he won't be able to keep all his promises, and who knows?
Maybe someone will ask for his impeachment by the end of next week."
"The idealism has diminished," said Samuel Solvit, who heads an Obama support network in France. "Everyone was dreaming a little. Now people are more realistic."

The ardor has turned into odor. Sweet.
Maybe, now the world is beginning to see that he is UNQUALIFIED and has NO CLUE what he is doing????
He was the new toy on Christmas Day. Now, they realised that it was made out of cheap plastic and with poor workmanship.
Euroweenie #2: "Zero"
The Obama bubble is going to burst, and the AP can’t do anything about it.
I can see it now.
President Ahmadinnerjacket, I have a copy here of papers from when you divorced your pet goat...
When the Marxist BS is over with, and Zero has to deliver as a strong U.S. president, HE will be over with. Socialists do not like to get involved in ANYTHING except their own empowerment and rule. Like Carter and Clinton, he will weaken the military and pander to our enemies. The only thing he will do internationally is give away MORE taxpayer money to buy favor. Typical socialist.
“...cools abroad...?”
Just wait and see what the US sheeple do to the Obamaloon as he demonstrates his incompetence.
Why do these idiot foreigners think the US presidency is American Idol?
But-but-but...you HAVE to love him! He’s the ONE! He..he’s the MESSIAH! He..he’s the ONE!
The world awakens from the post-Bush obozo-euphoria-induced sleep. US sheeple will take awhile longer. As one celebrity stated, obozo represents post-racial America.
Darn shame the euroweenies are quicker to spot a lying phoney than the lying phoney’s followers are.
What’s going on here??? We haven’t even had that Great-Come-And-Get-It-Day yet and the whining has already started??? What’s going on here???
Sigh....so many rose-colored glasses around here....those who are sitting around hoping for America to wake up. It’s simply not going to happen. The delusion is too strong, and all of Bambi’s talk about “patience” will lull the masses into a stupor....waiting for something - even though they know not what they wait for.
The problem is that even if it bursts here - which it will - he’s going to be president by then and is going to consolidate power very fast. Just watch.
They haven't invested quite as much of their credibility and futures in 0bama's phoney baloney. And, frankly, they're not quite as ignorant politically as US 0bama supporters.
David Axelrod-- Gets Obama's opponent's sealed divorce records opened up
It’s Obama’s version of the “Chewbacca defense.”
He brought this all on himself by promising everyone everything and acting like he was God's gift to humanity. Now, there is only one way to go from the lofty position he claimed for himself and that is DOWN.
Maybe someone will ask for his impeachment by the end of next week.
From his keyboard to God’s eyes. Amen, Amen.
The French would just rather hang on to their anti-Americanism than support any American President.
Wolfstar to the rest of the world: The American government's chief executive is President of the United States, not president of the world. Fix your own damned problems.
Oh man...and I thought I could go to Europe and hold my head up high now that The One has been crowned.
As far as I’m concerned, Europe can take care of their own damned problems. They can pay the money for their own defense forces. And they can take their constant cheating of America on “free trade” and shove it.
They wanted an America that wouldn’t “interfere” when terrorists and aggressors threaten them. OK, you’re on your own. You deal with it.
It’s going to burst sometime over the next four years because of all the things that conservatives tried to point out about him during the campaign. I expect that most of the issues will resurface a little at a time. The preacher will come back, his lost records will begin to surface, his wife’s position with the hospital and the money the hospital received will all be questioned eventually along with numerous other issues that we have discussed here. We just have to have patience.
Actually, an American president who has time to spend on issues other than his own image can do a lot to fix world problems. President Bush did an awful lot for Africa and the Pacific Rim. They appreciate it. Iraq and Afghanistan, along with some former SSRs, are happy with him as well.
A President who wants to be popular with the UN and the socialists is the one who can't fix world problems, or even our own.
And ITALY is suggesting Impeachment? What do they know that we don’t know?
They know Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States.
They know what anyone that didn't od on the Koolaid knows. He most likely isn't eligible and his past is a freaking nightmare filled with dirty deeds, crime and corruption
Isn’t he??
If phrased in the way I modified your response to my post, then I'd agree. However, anyone who treasures and wants to conserve the United States Constitution absolutely must insist that our nation's chief executive is President of the United States only, not president of the world. An understanding of the critical nature of this point is essential to successful opposition to the domestic and international Left's push for a world government.
I see the merit in your correction, but the US is the most powerful nation in the world, and it is US leadership, with other countries’ cooperation that fixes the problems, not the other way around.
You didn’t say, but I believe, that if the US President is Leftist, then the world’s problems will not be eased. Leftist policies have never improved anything except the fortunes of assorted despots and dictators.
I agree with this point completely.
