According to the Lebanese Daily Star, Safwat Higazi is founder and secretary-general of Dar Al-Ansar for Islamic Affairs, [1] and in January 2008 headed a 21-vehicle relief convoy bound for Gaza with medical and food supplies and blankets but was stopped by Egyptian police. [2] On December 24, 2008, he issued a fatwa that anyone who denies the Sunna is an infidel and crazy, and must be killed. [3]

U.S. Embassy Cairo released the following Warden Message on January 14:
Local media are reporting that there have been calls for demonstrations in front of the U.S. Embassy at 5 Tawfik Diab Street (formerly known as Latin America Street), Garden City, Cairo on Jan 15 and for a general strike on Jan 18. If these actions do take place they may lead to some road closures and traffic disruption in the general vicinity of the US Embassy. The police preparations might cause similar traffic disruptions. As always, we strongly urge American citizens to avoid areas where you see heavy police presence or crowds assembling and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any large public gatherings. As a reminder, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.
American citizens are advised to maintain valid travel documents and register with the Department of State or the U.S. Embassy Cairo through the State Department travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov. For further information, U.S. citizens may call the Embassy’s American Citizen Services Unit at 2797-2301 during business hours, Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. For emergencies after business hours and on weekends and holidays, U.S. citizens can contact the Embassy Duty Officer via the Embassy switchboard on 2797-3300. “Six wounded as Grads hit Beersheba”

SNIPPET: “Despite his mother’s best efforts to protect him with her body, a seven-year-old boy was seriously wounded in Beersheba on Thursday when shrapnel from a Grad rocket penetrated his skull.
Surgeons at the city’s Soroka University Medical Center were battling to stabilize Uriel Elazarov’s condition during the evening, saying his life was in danger.
A 43-year-old woman was seriously wounded in the abdomen by the rocket, and four other people sustained wounds described as light to moderate. Magen David Adom said 17 people were treated for shock.
The Grad was one of two rockets fired at Beersheba at approximately 5 p.m. The second one hit an open area just outside the city, causing no injuries.”
