So the IMF gave him a separate check specifically for the purpose of paying these FICA taxes and he took it and put it in his pocket and didn't pay the taxes.

That sounds criminal to me.

But then I'm just a country lawyer.

Me too, but the NY Times and the mainstream media won't care. Even some Republicans evidently are voting for the guy.

Not trying to defend the guy, but the IRS requirements and paperwork are a maze that few could manage.

I don’t understand, though, how a self-employed person could enter his income into the 1040 nightmare and not also have his software/accountant avoid the Social Security/Medicare payments. IIRC, as an employee, the payment is about 7%; as self-employed, it’s 14% up to some limit that I don’t recall.

It’s one reason why the fair tax is truly the only fair tax. Who can keep track of all this paper work?
