In Alpha Flight #106, published in 1992, the superhero known as Northstar uttered the words “I am gay”. The event generated some publicity in the mainstream press and Alpha Flight #106 sold out in a week, despite the fact that the series was not a very popular title.

I was going to mention the same thing. Whatever Stan “I loved Hillary” Lee decides to do, it’s already been done with Alpha Flight.

Thank you for pointing this out because if you didn’t I was going to.

Maybe Stan means there has never been a gay superhero who was the star of his own book. That might actually be true. I can think of several gay superheroes but they are all members of teams.

Then again that old showman Stan might just be cynically drumming up publicity. Excelsior!
