This was already done. Northstar from “Alpha Flight” and some goofy character called Estrano from a comic I can’t even remember the title of (which contained many other politically correct characters).
There are plenty of gay superheroes. The new Batwoman is a lesbian, as is the new Question. The aforementioned Northstar is gay, as is the Ultimates version of Colossus. Grace and Thunder of the Outsiders are bisexual, as is Icemaiden. This is old news.
