Bishop V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, the only openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church, has been asked to give the invocation at the first official inaugural activity, a welcome event with the president-elect on Sunday afternoon on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Robinson had been critical of president-elect Barack Obama for asking Rick Warren, the evangelical pastor who encouraged voters to overturn same-sex marriage in California, to deliver the invocation at the inauguration.
Episcopal Cafe has an e-mail from Robinson:
"I am writing to tell you that President-Elect Obama and the Inaugural Committee have invited me to give the invocation at the opening event of the Inaugural Week activities [SNIP] I am humbled and overjoyed at this invitation, and it will be my great honor to be there representing the Episcopal Church, the people of New Hampshire, and all of us in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community."
The Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights organization, praised the choice:
Bishop Robinson models what prayer should bespiritual reflection put into action for justice, [SNIP] It is encouraging that the president-elect has chosen this spiritual hero for all Americans to lead the nation in prayer at the Lincoln Memorial inaugural concert.
Although there has been some debate about whether Warren should use the name of Jesus in his inauguration day prayer, Robinson made it clear, in an interview with the Concord Monitor, that he will offer a non-sectarian prayer at the Sunday event. He said he will not use the Bible as his text, saying:
"While that is a holy and sacred text to me, it is not for many Americans," Robinson said. "I will be careful not to be especially Christian in my prayer. This is a prayer for the whole nation."

Truly a man fit for the task.
A man?
We must appease those who pervert, right?
Anglican ping
It doesn’t matter to me. I won’t be listening, watching or in any way participating in the “festivities”. Perversion and apostacy is clearly OK with this incoming administration.
I heard he changed his name to “Vicki”.
I think he was misquoted here. He is part of the “hole nation”.
Never play chess with an Episcopalian - they can’t tell a bishop from a queen.
Not smart. Instead of being seen as inclusive, he’s going to wind up offending everybody.
But...”my great honor to be there representing ....all of us in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.”
A contradiction: “The whole nation” = 100%; The queer crowd = 2% of “the nation”.
Hell and Death, this is bad.
America has turned her back on Christ and God is turning His back on us.
I once met a man named "Precious".
I’ve met “Bishop” Robinson a couple of times, years ago. Apparently, when he was born, he wasn’t expected to survive more than a few hours... His parents had only decided on a name for a girl... “Vicki Imogene”! That’s where he gets “Gene Robinson”. He used to be a guest minister in St. Barths, at the Anglican Church in Gustavia. When the Bishop of Antigua found out that he was on the island with his “friend” Mark, he was told never to return!
Someone else posted something funny...”Never play chess with an Episcopalian... the can’t tell a Bishop from a Queen!”
So true...
LC
It is incredible to me that Bishop Gene identifies more with his "GLBT" base than with Jesus!
No danger of that since he isn't one anyway!
GG: What is sin?OBAMA: Being out of alignment with my values.
No, but I think He weeps...
Paul the Apostle (Romans 1:16): For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation
Luke the Apostle (Luke 9:26): If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
