Judge attacked by homosexual lobby garners massive support in Spain

Madrid, Jan 9, 2009 / 02:07 am (CNA).- Various pro-life and pro-family organizations in Spain have banded together to form a support group for Judge Ferrin Calamita, who sits on the bench in Murcia and was sued for alleged discrimination against a lesbian who wanted to adopt the underage daughter of her partner.

Judge Fernando Ferrin Calamita was accused of illegally delaying a request for adoption by the couple for six months. He was sentenced to two years, three months and one day of unemployment or public office, plus a fine of $8,000 payable to the plaintiffs. He must also pay for all the court costs, which could reach $13,600.

According to leaders of the new group, Judge Ferrin, a husband and father of seven, is in a dire situation, as he has been barred from the bench for two years, stripped of employment and salary and is not allowed to receive any pay for work.

For this reason, groups such as the Thomas Moore Center for Justice, the civil rights website HazteOir.org, and Professionals for Ethics and Hispanidad.com created the Judge Ferrin Calamita Support Network to raise funds to help him pay for the fines, court proceedings and the needs of his family.

In Spain A litigant can sue the judge? That’s a new one.

As conservatives, I think we all want judges to apply the law, not make it up as they go along. That should be true no matter whose ox is being gored.

I have no idea what the law in Spain states, or if the judge was following it, or was operating within his allowable power of discretion. More information than what is given here is needed before I, or any reasonable person, can reach any conclusions

That being said, it certainly does appear that the judge's punishment was excessively harsh..

When ZP started pushing his gay marriage stuff and other pro-gay activities, people hoped he would allow for a conscience clause. After all, at the time that this judge - and also the magistrates and city officials who have to marry people - even started their professions, homosexuality was considered abnormal, it was and still is considered sinful by the church to which most Spaniards belong, and they certainly could never have dreamed of these new pro-homosexuality laws. But ZP and the radical left wanted to force this down everybody’s throats, and rejected any kind of conscience clauses.

Numerous Spanish civil servants have quit or been fired for refusing to go along with this.

The same thing will be happening here very soon. When ZP got into power after the Madrid bombings, everybody was actually surprised, because he represented the most radical wing of the Socialist party and nobody had thought he even had a chance before the bombings. But his very first actions were to impose his radical social plans, which included wildly expanded abortion, “gay marriage,” a forced gay indoctrination programs in the schools, etc. Unfortunately, he had enough radicals in the legislature to do this (it’s a parliamentary system, so they govern with coalitions, giving radicals much more power).

There was a million person march in Madrid about two weeks ago protesting these things. I hope we’re watching and learning, because Obama is going to do exactly the same things that ZP did. The question is - what happens when the law that you accepted when you went into your profession changes so radically while you are exercising that profession that it is virtually its opposite, particularly when it deals with things that are historically moral and ethical issues that one cannot simply regard as a mere external or pragmatic change?

ZP is of the same ilk as Castro, a totalitarian, and since power is from thre top down, it shows that even without secret poloce, a regime can impose its will on the people by coersing publc officials.
