Co-Creator of the Pill Laments Resulting Demographic "Horror Scenario"

VIENNA, January 8, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An Austrian chemist who helped spearhead the creation of the earliest contraceptive pill has expressed dismay at the severance of sexuality and reproduction made possible by widespread use of the pill, and has warned against the impending demographic disaster from plummeting birth rates.

Carl Djerassi wrote of his concern in a commentary appearing in the December issue of Austria's Der Standard, where he described couples who regularly contracept as "wanting to enjoy their schnitzels while leaving the rest of the world to get on with it."

Djerassi, who is a chemist, novelist, and playwright, is best known for helping create the synthetic hormone progestin norethindrone in 1951, together with Mexican Luis E. Miramontes and Hungarian George Rosenkranz. The far more potent synthetic hormone was soon used for contraceptive purposes as it remains effective when taken orally, unlike natural female hormones.

At the time, Djerassi had said that "not in our wildest dreams" had he expected the chemical to be used for contraception. Now, he writes, "My contribution is to help these people wake up," referring to Austrian couples who freely contracept.

Lamenting that there is now "no connection at all between sexuality and reproduction," Djerassi said, "This divide in Catholic Austria, a country which has on average 1.4 children per family, is now complete. Most Austrians enjoy sexual intercourse without thereby wanting or begetting a child."

Djerassi explained that Austria, which is now home to more seniors over 65 than children under 15, would soon enter "an impossible situation" as the lopsided population would result in a working class too small to support the needs of elderly pensioners.

Therefore, he urged, Austrians would have to quickly adopt an immigration policy designed to counteract the effects of widespread contraception lest the population commit "national suicide."

Mark Steyn writes extensively on this topic with regards to Muslim immigration, and how THAT demographic is filling the void. Europe saw this coming and weakened immigration laws for this very purpose: fattening the workforce to support socialist programs. Problem is, it’s the Muslims out-reproducing Europeans, the beginning toll of the death knell for Europe, according to Steyn.

We’re in the early stages of this here in the States.

So what'd he THINK it was going to be used for?

In America, the final demographic split will be

Hispanics, Muslims, and homeschooling Christians.

There are going to be a lot of neglected seniors in Austria soon.

Our situation is far, far worse than Austria's. In the USA, there are plenty who do not practice contraception. Unfortunately, they are also the ones who not only don't contribute to society, but are usually a drain on society. It's exacerbation to the Nth degree.

I have six children and don’t use artificial birth control. Am I a “drain on society”?

Fort Lauderdale is in Broward County surrounded by Dade and Palm Beach County. The three counties have a high population of Jews.

300 pro-Hamas Muslims and their supporters show up in Fort Lauderdale with 50 pro-Israel supporters. Probably 35 to 40% supporting Israel were non-Jews. 78% of Jews voted for Hussein and for liberals who will push for more open borders which equals even more Muslims.

The Muslims screamed nice things at the lauderdale demostration about how they wanted to put Jews in ovens. The situation will get worse under Hussein.

We were just in Germany, Austria, and Italy with our four children. I once saw a family with three children, but that was an exception. A few people commented on our family size, got some funny looks, and some open glaring. A few old women commented favorably- one German woman spent 5 minutes telling me how smart it was to have a lot of children, as her father had come from a large family and it helped during times of trouble, when money was worthless. Generally, though, Germans are more fond of dogs than children. The same people who glare at you for having children hate the immigrants that are required due to their low birth rate. I don’t know what it will take for them to understand. They have killed their civilization.

I think he's talking about "welfare moms". I suspect you're a productive member of society, otherwise you probably wouldn't post here.

I read somewhere that “sex is the mysticism of a materialistic world” and the pill has played a pivotal, in fact, essential role in bringing that about. From that, we’ve gone on to the widespread practice of the “barbaric sacrament” of abortion and “sex as a hobby” with its various and sundry perversions. Mostly, things which were not any significant part of our society 40 years ago. The demographic effect has been devastating at every level and few are willing to even look at it. I don’t know what the purpose of developing the contraceptive pill might have been originally and it may have been an “unintended consequence” of research being done for something else. Viagra - another “sacramental drug” - resulted from research intended to lower blood pressure and it was only noticed in tests that this drug lowered the blood pressure in the upper body while raising it in the lower body, resulting in the change of its use. I have to commend this guy for his honest observations of the bad effect of his work. If I remember correctly (and I’m not at all sure that I do) the development of this thing might have been toward trying to find a way to “regularize” menstrual cycles for women who had a problem with that.

... an immigration policy designed to counteract the effects of widespread contraception lest the population commit "national suicide."

Given the source of the immigrants, that in and of itself is likely to become a "national suicide" policy.

I don't think the latter day muslim majority will be too thrilled with the idea of supporting a bunch of old infidels. These people may well find themselves cut off from government pensions and medical care.

With respect to demographics we the USA are not an in early stage anything.

After 45 million abortions many of whom would have had children to total 70 million missing Americans, we face insolvency in every social safety net, so much so that the 20 million low educated illegal aliens who are filling some of the void will be inadequate to patch the ripped demographic.

Make no mistake that RINO and Dem support of illegal amnesty has as its main purpose a payroll and income tax revenue source, because the demographic trend shows the system will implode.

Without all those abortions or a great many of them, America would be more populous but the larger elderly retired group would be less a burden on taxpayers.

Social Security started out at a total 1% employee and employer matching on a small cap of income. Today SS/MC is a total 15.64% on close to $100,000 and the cap will be taken off and age of eligibility will be moved out past 65 years.

Socialism and abortion have busted this society.

In the Russian Far East it’s in such advanced stages that it has a huge strategic dimension. Russia is going to lose it’s Far East and in many ways already has. It’s one of the reason for its desperate attempts to project power that are now being undermined by the plunge in oil prices.

creation of the earliest contraceptive pill
***************************************************
Not Accurate; The Chinese made contraceptive pills over 1000 years ago ,, boiled down urine from public toilets to a paste/powder and mixed with a clay to form pills..
