U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the U.S. House of Representatives majority leader, told JTA he was looking at such a resolution, which is being drafted in the office of Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
"Certainly it would not demand a cease-fire," Hoyer said. "It would speak to the conditions that would justify a cease-fire. A cease-fire is not a just cease-fire when it's just Israel" holding fire.
Israel launched its major operation Dec. 27 in a bid to end rocket attacks on its South. Such attacks, carried out by militants allied with Gaza's Hamas rulers, drastically intensified last month following the end of a six-month cease-fire between Hamas and Israel.
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, also may join the resolution.
There’s something sneaky behind this sudden Democrat support of Israel. I just haven’t been able to figure out what it is.
Code Pink must be having a conniption fit right about now.
They are attempting to bring down the ridiculous expectations that they have built up for the coming administration. That or sneak in a gun control law similiar to that in the Global Poverty Act...
They suddenly realize that since they are in control of both houses of Congress, and the Presidency in two weeks, they will be responsible for anything that goes wrong with Israel for the next two years...............
They are strangely absent from the news anymore..........
What a bunch of losers. Congress. A non-binding resolution — what a crock of useless hot air, just to set up Obamunism to look like he cares about Israel. Oh, America, get ready for truck-loads of this BS over the next 4 years -—
What’s wrong with non-binding resolutions?
When you discipline your children, don’t you tell them that the punishment is optional?
They were protesting the One outside his hotel.....before he arrived. No mention in the news, of course, but read it on the Internet.
There were protesters at O’s enclave in Hawaii as well.
Barely a mention.
Posturing for the 2010 midterm elections.
Thanks for the insight into the workings of the leftist mind. I don’t care what the Left thinks about Israel. If Israel was destroyed and the Israelis were driven out of the Middle East tomorrow, the Left would not care one bit. The Left is oblivious to our friends, and only wants to help our enemies. Look at their adoration of Castro and Chavez. Look at their former long-running love affair with the Soviet Union. Could their bias be any more obvious?
not to worry. the usual jew-haters didn’t support it...
including MN’s own Keith X (Ellison).
