WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accused the militant Hamas organization of holding the people of Gaza hostage Friday and said the United States continues to seek a "durable and sustainable" cease-fire.

Speaking to reporters in the White House driveway after a meeting with President George W. Bush, Rice also said that the United States remains "very concerned about the situation there and is working very hard with our partners around the world."

Hey Condi, I know you feel the need to butt in on the Israelis while they wipe out terrorists, try to get them to remove roadblocks, etc. but please, stay out of this one. Oh, I know the terrorist-cheerleaders are not happy. Bummer, dude-ette.

The only way to solve this is let it go...let one side beat the bejeezus out of the other side. Then you negotiate. This wont be over no matter what. How many ceasefires have there been since 1948?
Why does the Abbas government have no power to stop this? Why is no one concerened about that? Why is is always Israel that is the problem?

There’s a remote chance she’s just paying lip-service but given her history I tend to be a bit skeptical.

She’s still pushing the Saudi’s Annapolis “peace plan”.

But at least she’s blaming Hamas publicly.

No kidding. Stay out of it and let the Israelis clean out that rat hole. Where were all of these people when the rockets were being launched over the past three years? That was the time to jump up and down for a ceasefire.

What the Israelis are doing now is orchestrating a REAL ceasefire. Just give them a little more time.

Maybe the Israelis should simply start building some missiles that are exactly equal to those Hammas is using, then start lobbing them, one for one, into Hammas territory. Every time an Hammas missile lands in Israel, an Israeli missile is launched into Gaza.

Sure would be cheaper than all the high tech stuff that's being used right now to assure a minimum of collateral damage as the IDF tries to blunt the Hammas attacks.

Talk about proportional response, that would be it exactly. Surely no one could complain about this approach. </sarc>

Agreed. Israel needs to terminate Hamas leadership, rocket factories and launching positions with extreme prejudice. It’s the only thing islamic terrorists understand.

Fatah had no problem killing Joooooos but Hamas killed them quite easily in Gaza.

A ceasefire is nothing but an opportunity for Hamas to regroup, rearm, recruit, and come back stronger than ever down the road. Israel should settle for nothing except unconditional victory and Condi Rice should butt the hell out.

Absolutely correct. Hamas would declare “victory” in “repelling the Zionist forces”.

Crush Hamas, Israel. God said He would make you like torches of fire and devour the people round about.

Zechariah 12:6 NKJV

In that day I will make the governors of Judah like a firepan in the woodpile,
and like a fiery torch in the sheaves;
they shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left,
but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place—Jerusalem.

So we can have an Israeli surrender engineered by Rice or by Hillary. The only question will be how much money the US sends the Palestinians to help them re-arm.

...said the United States continues to seek a "durable and sustainable" cease-fire.

In some cases, the only "sustainable cease-fire" is when one side is utterly destroyed, therefore unable to begin firing again.

Muslims have shown themselves to be in this category.

Note to Condi:

Time to enjoy your retirement and let Israel "handle" the "cease fire."

When the people "firing" at you are dead, there is a natural "cease fire."

The lies about the "peace process" is meaningless and only harms Israel.

The U.S. and our Allies, during WWII, didn't invoke a "peace process" or negotiate a "cease fire" with Germany or Japan. We bombed our enemies until THEY held up the white flag and agreed to surrender.

That is the only way "peace" is achieved and enemies(terrorists) want only to WIN not take a "time out," "recess" to "play nice." Sure that may pretend that's what they are doing. It usually means they're out of ammo and need to arrange for some additional terrorists to join in the fight to the death and bring along more ammo and firepower.

Nobody in the State Dept. understands this anymore, as it appears that nobody in all of DC and especially the White House either understands or cares - it's only Israel and Jews (right now.)

We bombed our enemies until THEY held up the white flag and agreed to surrender.

That's when you cease-fire. That's how peace is created: when your enemies are thoroughly convinced that aggression on their part will result in their own destruction.

I wonder how much that gift of jewelry from the Muslim “royalty” has influenced Condi?

Peace in the middle east will not come until Islamic fanaticism has been destroyed... This may require the death of millions of “believers” and supporters of Jihad..

At present, Muslims think of Jihad as Muslims killing infidels..
Their view of Jihad did not include the reality of the “infidels” killing them....
They really need to see that the sword of war has TWO edges - and cuts in both directions...

You have to wonder when the Condi Rice’s of the world will wake up to the fact its a War of Annihilation, in slow motion.

Nobody screams in outrage when 6,000 rockets indiscriminately fall on Israel.

But let one kid get injured, let alone killed, in the Gaza Strip and all hell breaks loose.

My view is pretty simple. The Israeli’s should continue until there isn’t anything left to bomb, then bounce the rumble.

Why does the Abbas government have no power to stop this?

Because nobody there likes him. He and his Fatah terrorist party were soundly thrashed in elections, which is how Ham-ass took over in Gaza.

The only reason he gets to act like a big shot is because our government props up his fool ass, as some sort of "better" alternative to the outright terrrorists in Ham-ass.

Actually, from what I do know about the Palis, if anything, the Ham-ass support was undercounted. They wanted the overt terrorists (as opposed to the faux statesmen of Fatah) and they knew exactly what Ham-ass is all about. It had nothing to do with Fatah being corrupt, blahblahblah.
