A FINAL NEW YEAR’S AT THE ‘WESTERN WHITE HOUSE’
Jon Ward (Contact)
President Bush isn’t likely to stay up to say goodbye to 2008, but he’ll rise before sunup Thursday to greet 2009.
“I think he’s more likely to be an early riser for the first of the new year, rather than to see the old year out,” said White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe, briefing reporters at the president’s Texas ranch for the last time in the Bush presidency.
Mr. Bush and first lady Laura Bush have made a tradition over the last eight years of taking a sunrise walk on the Crawford ranch each Jan. 1.
“It’s something they’ve always enjoyed doing and look forward to doing tomorrow,” Mr. Johndroe said.

A THANK YOU TO BUSH
By the Jerusalem Post Editorial Board
Six days into Israel’s confrontation with Hamas, just one world leader has steadfastly shown genuine understanding of our dilemma - George W. Bush.
The initial reaction of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, for instance, was commonsensical: “I understand the Israeli government’s sense of obligation to its population.” That sympathy, though not dissipated, was soon watered down as the Foreign Office brought London’s policy into harmony with the European Union by calling for an immediate cease-fire.
In contrast, from Texas, where the president has been marking the holidays, his spokesman Gordon Johndroe placed the onus for the hostilities where it belongs: “Hamas’s continued rocket attacks into Israel must cease if the violence is to stop,” he said. The administration was satisfied, Johndroe added, that the IDF was doing everything possible to avoid civilian casualties. Moreover, he said, the best way to ensure that violence didn’t flare up again was for Hamas to stop smuggling weapons into Gaza.

BUSH STANCE ON CEASE-FIRE SHOWS SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL
By Robert Burns
WASHINGTON By insisting that Hamas go first in any cease-fire with Israel, the Bush administration is sticking to its support for the Jewish state’s right of self-defense while stopping short of encouraging an Israeli ground assault aimed at fully reoccupying the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
The Bush administration on Wednesday asserted its desire for a halt to the fighting but also made clear its view that the first step in any cease-fire will require Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rejects Israel’s right to exist, to agree to stop firing rockets from Gaza into Israel now and in the future.

Another gratuitous snark from our ‘objective’ media:
Late Breaks: LAURA BUSH IN BLANDNESS SHOCKER!
Monday December 29, 8:18 pm ET
-Publishers’ interest in Laura Bush’s memoir is cooling, as it seems like the soon-to-be-former First Lady doesn’t plan on saying anything interesting. [In other words, Laura doesn’t plan to trash her beloved husband and his Administration.]

Thanks for the dose tonight and thank you for linking to my part one of the 2008 review thread.
I have also been working on some of the toasters and I will post them shortly.

Awww, dear snugs. I am trying hard not to be too sad.I will miss them so.
Thank you for all your thoughts, supports and prayers. The sodium levels appear to have gone up and he was much more awake and with it today.
I would ask for prayers that they continue to stabilize and that we can get the balance right between enough and too much fluid. Today he seemed to want to drink orange juice all day and I had to limit him to one and half litres of fluid which included juice, coffee and water we over run but I was not too worried as the Sister felt that tomorrow they would probably cancel the restrictions on fluid but it may mean he has less overnight and until the restriction is lifted.
You’re welcome, but I can’t take the honor, I just pinged everyone from my Dose list
Thanks for my toasters, they are perfect.
Ok, leftovers it is!!
Hi snugs prayers continue for you and your dad. Have a happy New Year!(fr mail)
God bless you & your family Snugs!
Thanks for all the good you do here for us!
My prayers for you & your family continue.
May you feel God’s protective arms around you.
Thank you so much for the toasters :)
They’re great!

Thanks daisy!
Snugs, you are remarkable ... your retrospective thread that's up is fantastic, and I will bookmark all of them as places I'll always want to visit to rejuvenate my optimism and gratitude that we were blessed to have this decent man with such high ideals, character and integrity as our President for these years.
Even when you had so much to take care of with your Mom and now your Dad's illnesses and so many other responsibilites, you've been here .. loyal and true... faithfully posting the thread and doing the toasters (and TV's and washers ;). You are loved and appreciated so much. I pray things will continue to improve with your Dad. He couldn't be more blessed, with you by his side, advocating for him. Thank you SO much, dear FRiend across the sea.
Jonny, Wolfie, Justa, My Dear O, Daisy, Kas, ... you are the greatest. Thank you for ALL the time and hours of hard work in bringing us these threads over the years. Having been able to do it for awhile, I know how much time and work it takes. The Dose's have sometimes been short or long, especially on the President's trips, but it's always been something to look forward to .. a port in the storm... and you all have done an outstanding job.
It's truly been a labor of love, and you all ... including our Dear Gretchen in Heaven .. and Rinnie, who started this .. have given us such a wonderful respite and escape from the sometimes cruel and crude world out there on other threads, and so many smiles and joy at watching the days march on in this Bush Presidency, from the very beginning.
We have all been changed over these last years of the War on Terror, and most of all .. our wonderful POTUS, who now bears the grey hair and wrinkles that only the stress of being in this uniquely hot seat for 8 years and dealing with such serious, life and death decisions can leave.
He wears those in my mind, however, with the pride of his serious devotion to and honor of the office. He's never wavered from his prime duty of keeping us safe ... 24/7. He kept his charge ... totally, and history will record that, against all odds, his efforts and focus kept us free of another attack on our soil these last years after 9/11.
We'll never know the burdens he's carried daily all these years, through which he always put on the brave and optimistic face to the troops and world. We'll start to learn about them as the years trickle by, and we'll be totally impressed again with his fortitude and character. He's been an incredibly focused and inspiring POTUS and CIC, and truly brought honor and dignity back to the White House, as he promised in the beginning, along with his lovely and gracious wife, Laura.
I believe their shoes will be nearly impossible to fill, but we have been so blessed with them in the White House these two terms, and we have these threads to return to that will lift us up and bring back our smiles on the possible darker days to come.
He's accomplished much in these years, as the list I posted documents. You can't erase these solid and documented achievements, and you can't erase the progress from tyranny to democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan for 50 million people. Imagine how much those generations who will benefit from freedom will appreciate and remember him in the future as they build their lives in liberty.!
I don't care what the pundits say today .. I believe honest historians will record his greatness and intrepidity in the face of these huge challenges on his plate in his terms.
We've witnessed Pres. Bush's travels to far flung places like Chile, Africa, Italy, the UK, Israel, etc. and delighted in his surprise visits to Iraq and Afghanistan. There couldn't be a more caring CIC than he, and the reactions from the troops in his presence in the field and during his visits to the wounded show their appreciation of him.
We've watched Jenna and Barbara grow up, and seen W give his Jenna away in marriage. We've watched the canine family change over the years, from Spot to Miss Beazley, and we've seen the elder Bush's age. And they've been incredibly interesting and fun to document .. and made us proud that they were the First Family. They were raised right.
So, as time doesn't stop, we move forward with gratitude that George and Laura Bush have been at 1600 Pennsylvania, but with sadness, melancholy and great ambivalence, praying and hoping that God will continue to bless America, through all that's to come.
My hope is that we will continue this as "Sanity Island" .. maybe a thread each month that we can all add to with updates, worthy tidbits, etc. we learn about George and Laura Bush and their family .. and keep this place as our little sanctuary, away from the masses. I have a feeling we'll be needing it. It will interesting to see his Freedom Institute develop and grow, and fun to see the day when they're grandparents.
Jim Rob, Mods .. thank you for allowing us to keep this thread protected and safe from the nasty posters. It has meant SO much to us all here.
So while I was thinking about it, I just wanted to thank all the Dose Posters for all the pleasure you've given us over the years in our safe little harbor called ... A Day In The Life Of Pres. George W. Bush (with photos).
God bless us all ... God bless and protect George and Laura Bush. May they have the decades of peace and happiness they've so richly earned.

You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it

Thanks for the update, Snugs! Indeed I will pray that your
Dad’s sodium levels stabilize so he can eventually go home.
I think being in his own bed again would be the best medicine

The toasters are wonderful, as are you!
Didn’t I post those photos in post#7? Are they not showing up?
What a nice post. Thank you. Sad days around here for sure. Even if McCain had won, I would still be missing W and Laura.
Hi there! They both look great today and I know they will be uneasy in D.C. for the next three weeks. The town and media are gonna nuts cauz the O’s will be in town, way early. Seems like they cannot wait to get into the WH even got a hotel room which overlooks the WH...makes my blood boil.

All I can say to the Daily Dose Posters is thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope you all know the joy your Dose Posts brought. I would not go to sleep without checking in to the Dose....after reading about and looking at pics of our dear W, I could then end my day with a smile.
Thank you and God bless each of you.
