ASHDOD, ISRAEL — For many residents of southern Israel, the fighting in the nearby Gaza Strip is measured not in days or hours, but in the number of seconds they have to take cover when Hamas rockets rain down. In coastal Ashdod, where a woman was killed by a rocket on Monday, about 40 seconds elapse between the “Code Red” warning sounded over loudspeakers and the blast of impact.
The city is 35 kilometres from north Gaza and, before Israel launched an air assault on Hamas on Saturday, had been untouched by the Palestinian Islamists' salvoes. Many of its 230,000 residents still cannot believe they are now under fire.
“We're still in shock. Never in my life had I heard a ‘Code Red' in Ashdod,” said Eli, a 40-year-old taxi driver.
The rockets, some homemade and others factory produced and smuggled into Gaza, have killed four Israelis since the fighting began. Hamas has been deploying more powerful rockets by the day as part of a strategy it has dubbed the “burning oil slick.”
Israel has killed more than 380 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip barrage since Saturday and demands that any new truce in Gaza guarantee that the rocket fire end.
Eli, who gave only his first name, was one of the first to reach the slain woman. She had bolted from her car to seek shelter after a siren sounded, but tripped and fell in the street, where she was shredded by the shrapnel of a rocket.
“It was like a nightmare. And you can still feel the tension,” he said.
Haim Rosen, 13, said he was constantly thinking about places where he could take cover if sirens sounded again.

Thats because Iran is now supplying Hamas with their rockets. But I'm sure the main stream media will be screaming about "humanitarian crisis in gaza" 24/7 in the coming weeks, instead of questioning why Hamas has a ample supply of Katyusha rockets, instead of food and medicine for its people.
Well, no, these so-called rockets that the Hamas are using are archaic weapons compared to the advanced weaponry and the disproportionate use of force that the Israeli's are using.

The local media is covering protests by Palestinians in the city. They however seem to miss the part where Hamas terrorists started this mess. There only reporting that Israel is bombing the Gaza strip and of coarse they mention the ever present death count.
I pray the Lord protect those in southern Israel.

Israel pulled out of gaza years ago. They not only no longer occupy gaza but the Palesinians have ben ignored by the rest of the world. It’s not Israel’s job to supply terrorists trying to kill them with food-water and the like...and how is it Iran, Saudi Rabia etc. send millions in stipends to murder Jews, but can’t get water and food and electircity to them?
Where’s the liberal outrage, media coverage and U.N. since Israel pulled out?

Gaza’s BEEN free from Israel, they’re occupied however by the satanic hamas monsters that use civilian human shields while launching rockets into southern Israel and PURPOSEFULLY TARGETING innocent Israeli civilians.

Back to Israel while the zero is golfing in Hawaii...they should demand all civilians leave gaza and put on notice all the arab countries that they’re going to create a buffer aound Israel, and anything inside this buffer will soon not exist in any manner other than a parking lot and desert in the near future.
It’s on the arab countries, the ball is in their court to divert a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

I personally remember well the images of jews leaving Gaza.
Heartbroken families leaving their homes, and the homes being destroyed afterwards.
No good deed goes unpunished.
The Israelis have to hold off until Hamas has killed 380 Israelis, only then can Israel carefully go after a single Hamas thug. It’s only fair.
I find myself surrounded by so many liberal morons that I sometimes just want to go start “Conservative Island” somewhere.
I’ll reconsider the meaning of “disproportionate” after Israel kills 380,000 terrorist thugs.
